Hi! this was so cute. it's not my best but I hope it did your request justice :)) - j

It was a Saturday morning, and like every other weekend you were surfing. Sometimes you met the rest of the pogues, but most of the time it was just you and Kiara. It had become a sort of routine, a tradition. Something the two of you shared, a sort of sacred place where you could be whoever you wanted even for a little bit.

You weren’t as good as Kie and you probably did more talking than surfing, but you didn’t mind. When you and Kiara met in Biology your sophomore year of high school, you had instantly clicked. You had been partnered up for a lab the second week of school and the rest was history. You had always been friendly with her friends, but you were never close. That was until she started inviting you out on the boat with them and to bonfires and parties.

You weren’t sure exactly when your feelings started to change, when you became so desperate for her attention. When touches started lingering and jokes turned into making sure she was laughing, too. Or when the first thing you do when you walk into a room is look for her, hoping there is a spare seat next to her. There usually was. You were hoping the little crush would go away, but all it did was grow. And it was killing you knowing she probably didn’t feel the same way back.

This morning when she met you on the beach, in between the lifeguard’s posts like usual, she was quiet and eager to get in the water. You followed suit and tried not to think much of it. The next few hours felt urgent. The two of you not really talking, other than the occasional comment. It felt unnatural for you to not joke along with her and dare each other to do stupid poses while surfing.

When you both get tired, floating in the water and reting on your boards you decide to speak up, “Are you okay?”

She looks at you for what feels like the first time today, “yeah.”

“Are you sure? Because you can tell me whatever it is.”

“It’s not a big deal.” Kie was trying to be upbeat and shake it off, but you could tell there was something she wasn’t saying.

“Are you mad at me?”

She looked at you again, something different in her eyes, “No, no. I could never be mad at you.”

There was a moment where the two of you stayed just like that. You watched as Kie tucked her hair behind her ear and sighed before speaking again, “fuck it,” she murmerred.

“It’s not- I don’t want to say something that messes up our friendship. I don’t want to jump and-”

“Jump,” you spoke softly. You hoped this meant exactly what you thought it did. You could hear your heartbeat in your ears.

She smiles just slightly, “I like you. I like you a lot, I always have. I never wanted to say anything because you’re like my favorite person, but I do.”

You feel yourself smiling, your cheeks heating up, “yeah?”

She nods, meeting your smile.

“Come here,” you say as you reach over and cup her chin, collading your lips with hers. She tastes like saltwater and peach chapstick. You feel her wrap an arm around your torso, pulling you closer. Neither of you can contain your smiles, bumping teeth together and laughing every time a wave crashes over the top of you. It was messy and a bit clumsy, but you wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere else.

I think Tim said the first 3 episodes aren't really about EJ but let me be honest, Nini, to me, is the most boring character.

I want more EJ angst. I can relate to not knowing what you're gonna do and having a spotlight on you in your family.

This makes sense! And I’m sure covid got in the way of this episode specifically. I just think all the characters could be fleshed out better. We seem to be focused on ricky a lot right now but even his development could be presented better ? idk.

As for Nini... I kinda feel you. She feels very one dimensional and there just to move some plot points along which is really sad. Don’t get me wrong I’m loving the show and it’s still pretty early in the season so.

I think EJ could be SUCH a good character. Especially being a senior and navigating through college apps and his final show and sports seasons. They could do this really well with him.

If you want my honest answer, I do think so. It’s very popular, has a different and direct demographic, and the actors themselves have become really popular. There’s a demand for the show and Netflix has to be aware of this. (I’m not sure what would cause them to take so long to announce it though)

I know this weird limbo space we’re in is unnerving, but hopefully we’ll be left out on some good news.
