After a busy day (taking my wife to her citizenship interview - yes, she passed) I’m going to relax with a cold Switchback Ale in my favorite Cabot Cheese glass while listening to the Ampzilla 2000 Demonstration Reference Disc (released in 2003) featuring Ben Webster from some of his Black Lion recordings. Twelve tunes, eight with an septet featuring Webster, Arnved Meyer on trumpet, John Darville on trombone, Ole Kongsted on tenor sax, Niels Jorgen Steen on piano, Hendrix Hartman on bass and Hans Nymand on drums. The other four tunes are a quartet of Webster, Kenny Drew on piano, Nils Pederson on bass and Alex Riel on drums. This hybrid stereo SACD is culled from recording Webster did in Copenhagen in 1965. Featuring some of his better know works, both ballad and up tempo stompers, there is something to love here for everyone. Yes, the soundstage is a bit left/right, but not obnoxiously so. It’s easy to pick out whom ever you want to follow. But as one would expect, Webster is the star of the show and gets the best sound. I’m a huge Ben Webster fan and am super glad I picked this up. Don’t know how hard to find (or expensive) it’ll be today, but it’s well worth it. If not true demo quality, it’s only a notch or two below that lofty standard. Extremely highly recommended. #sacd #stereo #highresaudio #jazz #music #digital #album #audio #highend #audiophile #audiophilerecording https://www.instagram.com/p/BvfMhO5A2WY/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1tq8mq7hso3yy
