Was I the best marcher in my highschool marching band? No. Was I the best trumpet player in my highschool marching band? Also no. But did I have the best eyebrows without even trying? Yes, yes I did

this goes to a very small demographic that i have never interacted with on tumblr but i hope it gets to the right place regardless
trans people in marching band: do not bind. do not tuck.
i know dysphoria is a bitch, but your safety is way more important. it doesn't matter what section you're in, intensive physical activity while restricting soft tissue is a bad idea. if you're a wind player, you also have to consider how binding while active will (not can, will) affect your playing ability.
6-8 hour rehearsals in the blazing sun while marching. you're gonna be sweaty and tired and uncomfortable anyway, please do not add permanant rib/pelvic area damage to that list.
i care about you. drink plenty of water, stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and have fun!!

i hate professional tenor players
IMPORTANT:
With mid-July coming up, a lot of people’s marching band seasons are starting, and now is a good time to remember these things:
DO NOT BIND while marching, do not bind while practicing, stretching, running, and definitely not at a competition or game. You will do SERIOUS damage to your ribs and you won’t be breathing correctly. Do not do it.
And, as tough as this one is, DO NOT LAYER UP either, especially mid-July and August, you don’t want to suffer heat stroke. Dysphoria sucks ass, but trust me, so does a stroke.
DRINK WATER. Lots of it. You cannot be doing the strenuous activities marching includes while dehydrated, you’ll pass out on field, and that’s not fun.
STRETCH. I know you have group stretches, but do more. Your muscles need to stay warmed up so you don’t pull anything. It would suck if you have to sit out for a season because you pulled a muscle in your arm or leg.
EAT SOMETHING. Make sure your body has the nutrients it needs to stay healthy during marching band. Try to keep from living off of candy and chips, pack a lunch if you must. Eat a good breakfast.
And with this being 2020:
WEAR A MASK around your friends when not playing an instrument. You don’t need to get everyone sick before a football game or major practice. Respect yourself and others, wear a fucking mask.
SANITIZE. Wash your hands, use hand sanitizer, and stay clean. Don’t play other people’s instruments, and don’t hold them unless its absolutely necessary. Again, you don’t need your marching band to be infected with covid.
SOCIAL DISTANCE, whenever your band isn’t working sets, don’t sit too close to anyone, you can hear each other fine in large circles six feet away. And if you are HOH (Like a friend of mine who plays flute, shout out to you) try texting back and forth from a safe distance.
STAY SAFE, HAVE FUN, AND STAY HAPPY.
That’s all I can think of for now, feel free to add on. Please reblog to remind your marching band friends to stay happy and healthy during this coming season!
Like, I know that there are still a few months left, but if covid-19 cancels the marching band season, I am not going to school. I will quit my sophomore year entirely. Do not test me.
My band director made us go over our halftime drill in the rain today because we where behind and he said "Jesus is crying because he knows you guys can do drill better"

Last Performance
There are so many things I wish I could have over again My heart is breaking Knowing that I just finished my last ever season with my second family Never again will I march with them Never again will I have another practice with them Never again will I perform another show with them Never again will I have this experience My heart is breaking for all the Never's Oh how I wish I could go back and continue to experience it Make my days of doing what I love drag into infinity But instead I'm only left with the beautiful memories And the bittersweet knowledge that I'm moving on to bigger and better
