my county is going to be doing some FUCKED UP SHIT to the music program. we currently have:
-string orchestra
-full orchestra
-jazz band
-symphonic band
-competition marching band
-regular marching band
-saxophone ensemble
-percussion ensemble
-brass quintet
-coming soon??? folk music ensemble
THE BOARD OF ED WILL BE CUTTING ORCHESTRA AND BAND DOWN. WE WILL NO LONGER HAVE A SEPARATE PERCUSSION/BAND CLASS, IT WILL BE TOGETHER. the 1 on 20 instruction will become 1 on 50. the chorus will be one full group that is a semester class, and show choir (dancing/singing) will no longer be offered.
ORCHESTRA IS EITHER GOING TO BE A FALL SEMESTER CLASS OR NOT A CLASS OFFERED AT ALL.
they have decided that the arts are not important enough to keep in school. students will need to choose between having ap classes that look good on a resume, or being in music.
please. i'm not asking for money. spread the fucking word. if you care about music AT ALL than you should be fucking reblogging this. i know my mutuals care. i don't care if you're in my county or even in my state or country. this is an injustice that genuinely needs to be spread. the state of maryland is fucked for good.
Marching season is starting!!!!
…….im leadership this year
DC marching band AU
Pt 1: Batfam
Alfred: band director (middle school)
- The thought of Alfred helping young musicians start their music journey
- Taught all the bat kids how to play piano (Bruce included)
Bruce: Percussion program coordinator
- oversees percussion and audio design
- Arranges and writes perc music
- Def played mallets back in the day, took up audio when electronics were added to marching bands
- Was also probably an orchestra kid
Dick: Color Guard
- He’s so graduated already but he def went back to tech LOL
- Could spin a 7 on saber his sophomore year lowk
Jason: Quads (battery)
- joined percussion cause he “just likes to hit things”
- He rages when any wind player complains about instrument weight
Tim: Marimba
- him and cass keep the front ensemble from falling apart
- Lowkey likes playing vibraphone more
- Center marimba bb
Damian: Clarinet
- He’s still be in middle school
- I see him taking up oboe or smth in hs
- Would probably also take up mallets to “live up to Bruce’s legacy”
Cass: Xylophone
- the twins play the same instrument :3
- Shes def the tempo center point
- not enough hype for how stressful this position is
Steph: tenor saxophone
- she def fell for the careless whisper saxophone appeal
- Rest of batfam adopted her into their percussion world
- she plays vibraphone for indoor/winter seasons
Duke: Bass (battery)
- Lowk loves to play star spangled banner at football games😭
- every bass drummer I’ve met is the chillest person ever
Babs: Synth
- Babs is definitely also graduated, but she works at the HS as their audio person instead of music instructor
- Electronics and wiring galore
I’m learning piano
yall i need to know do i have aura here
Why isn't there any drum corps aus?
Like drum corps has
Forced proximity
Showering together (I mean literally, like 4 people will share a single shower head. You get used to it.)
Constantly busy and separated from other sections
Reasonable to be up at 4am having a conversation ranging from deep trauma dumping to which staff member would look best in drag
Forced proximity
Hot, sweaty, tan, SHIRTLESS people (even women)
Really high emotions
Similarly, extreme amount of stress
Forced proximity
Working out regularly
Basically living together but on the road
Performances (which I know is hard to romanticize if you don't do it but trust - love for people and performing is surprisingly simple to interweave)
Forced proximity
So yeah do with this what you will, feel free to add on
dear dci/marching band people…
if you are/were a drum major, what instrument did you play prior or aside to being a drum major? If you know a drum major feel free to answer for them as well! i’m trying to see who is most likely to become a drum major.
Feel free to specify your instrument/experience in a comment/reblog too!
Also, please reblog and share so we can get a good result!
Thank you! :)
(p.s. i applaud those who have no instrument experience… how did you do it?)
