I doubt anyone else did this but like, back in high school, we were reading books for English (obviously) and I didn't like most of them, they were really boring but there were two that were kinda interesting. 'Between us' by Clare Atkins and 'The Longest Memory' by Fred D'Aguiar. And after reading them I remember just thinking, what if there was fanfictions for these stories.
Between us is a book about a girl named Ana who lives in a detention centre and its horrible, she goes to a school where she meets a boy named Jono. They bond and become friends despite how different they are and if I remember, at the end they split apart for some reason. I remember wondering if there was a want for a fic that had them get together and he helps her have a better life.
The Longest Memory is a book with a different POV and structure every chapter, its set on a slave plantation back in the 18th century and it was actually kinda engaging. The story I wanted fics of was the love between a young slave named Chapel and the owner's daughter Lydia, it was actually kinda sweet and I kept just thinking about writing a future fic where they are reborn in a modern time and find each other because they're soulmates and its sweet and happy...
