High Tech Surveillance Cameras?

Has anyone noticed the uptick in high tech surveillance cameras popping up in their cities, neighborhoods or maybe your local retail store?

I found this set up by "CVS" to be a bit much and maybe over the top for a retail store that's located on 5th Ave, where there is nothing but NYPD cameras as well as other cameras located on the building of New York City Library,the Empire State Building and Chase Bank all on the each corner of the block.

Made me think of a few films featuring surveillance as a theme or plot arc.
