Spent a weekend at the old logging school. No classes in session any longer, Ron’s retired after 44 years. We had the place to ourselves to sit. Such a peaceful weekend. Hiking, trips to the sauna, playing games by the fire, reading the years and years of journals that are kept by visitors to the cabins, a drive through the Superior National Forest to Ely, playing with the dogs in the yard, studying the trees, indulging in fine cheeses and fruits. Pretty much the perfect weekend for me.

Isabella, MN - Oct 14, 2018 Squeezed in one last swim for the dogs last weekend up In Northern MN. They’ll still probably swim again in the city here, where it’s warmer, with any luck. The first day, the water was frosted over so they couldn’t go in, but on Sunday it was nice enough for a little dip in Sand Lake. They had the whole lake to themselves. Afterwards, we went in the sauna and let them warm up in the entrance. As we packed up for home, the snow started falling again, these big fluffy, flakes. This middle ground between sunny and light snow is some of my favorite weather. Fall colors, no bugs, comfy clothes, comforting fires, and air that feels a just a little chilly until you get your blood pumping.
