Moreton Island Packing List
As I have previously mentioned I thought I should post my packing list for Moreton Island. The trip was planned for three days and two nights. Always check the weather before you go! So here it is, a few items I could have done without but I know I sleep cold so I came prepared as the weather was forecast to drop below 10 of an evening. Also you may notice that a lot of the items are Kathmandu and this is because, well, I work there.
Pack - 50l Kathmandu Altai Pack
Sleeping bag - Kathmandu Comet v2 ~6 degrees weight 0.6kg
Tent - Denali Zephy II Hike (I split the fly and inner into two separate compression sacs so it compressed down to nothing)
Camelbak 2L Hydration Badder + 1 litre water bottle (hydration is important)
Kathmandu self inflating pillow
Denali Camper Self Inflating Mat
Cooking - Kathmandu foldable cutlery set 3pc, Kathmandu titanium backpacker stove + 250g gas canister, Kathmandu anodised pot, Sea to Summit collapsible mug (I found this big enough to eat my dinner in and it also has measurements on the inside for dehydrating meals), Mountain Designs WIlderness Wash, kathmandu compact towel (one large and one small used for drying and as a sweat rag)
Clothing - Lorna Jane leggings (I don’t know which ones they are but they were extremely comfortable and mobile! Worst thing was they’re grey so my sweaty bum could be seen from a mile away), adidas climalite singlet (this is so quick drying), Champion shorts (also quick drying), Under Armour Heat Gear crop top (i own a gazillion of these, so comfortable), four pairs of underwear, Kathmandu 1/4 crew merino hike socks (I wore these the whole time walking and my feet didn’t get smelly or sweat too much), one pair of poly pro thermals (my pjs plus they have really cool stripey patterns on them), Teva Tirra sandals, random polyester long sleeve shirt, Heron Island Research Station cap, and of course my Danner Mountain Light boots :)
Food - I’d recently bought a food dehydrator so I was keen to get some use out of it. I dehydrated some bananas (3 I think) to mix in with my trail mix, dehydrated tomatoes (for lunch), 1 avocado (for lunch), slices of gouda cheese (for lunch, also I read somewhere that gouda keeps well), dehydrated mushrooms (to add to dinner), packet of Vita Weet Lunch Slices (for unch of course), oats and powdered milk for breakfast, and two packets of continental Alfredo packet pasta. All of this I organised into separate breakfast, lunch and dinner snap lock bags. I also made up my own trail mix of the dehydrated banana slices, almonds, sunflower and pumpkin kernels, dried cranberries, crispy m&ms (the best) and soy crisps.
Extra stuff - Camera (small Nikon coolpix one, camera charger, solar charger, headtorch, map, ipod. I also used carabiners to clip my camera and towel to my pack for easy reach, sunscreen, bushmans tropical insect repellant spray, small bottle of moisturiser, travel wipes, blister tape, caramax lip cream, tissues, tooth brush & toothpaste (travel size)
And that’s pretty much it!! The weather was fantastic and don’t forget to plan ahead and most of all, enjoy yourself!
