The crowd beyond the curtain had begun chanting, "Hilda! Hilda Hilda!" in earnest so Hilda turned to Annette, holding out her arms to present herself. "Well?" she prompted, letting her makeup artist-turned-makeup artist and girlfriend look her over.

Hilda knew, of course, that she looked amazing, but it was tradition for Annette to appraise Hilda's face, clothes, hair, and shoes before a show-- and sure enough, Annette’s peered up at her critically, then pressed a kiss just under the blush across the apple of Hilda's cheek and said with a grin, "Have fun out there!"
