I agree with headcanons that Hilda has a fear of rejection, and Frida of imperfection. But as for David and his many small fears; do you think there's a deeper phobia that acts as the common thread? Is it just a lack of confidence, or could there be a little more to it?

My reading is that it's ultimately a self-esteem issue? David lacks confidence in general because he lacks confidence in himself, and that has become a bit of a vicious cycle I think especially in Season 2 - he's actually very capable of standing up to frightening things for the sake of people he cares about, but when it comes to himself, he tends to fall into "I'm not brave enough" in a way that inflates his genuine fears a lot IMO, and I think the root of that is a general discomfort he feels around who he is and what he's capable of.

It's why I ended up headcanoning David/Lucy as transfem - it's very easy to read that lack of self-esteem and general discomfort in themself as a form of dysphoria or something approaching it, IMO - even though I know that's not the intent.

How do feel about the idea of this guy being Tontu's grandfather?

Ehhh - personally I'm against it for narrative reasons? I don't want to introduce new family for any of Hilda's household because I like the idea that they're all one big family already and that's all they need - Alfur might have a grandmother still around, but he sees Hilda as his little sister and Johanna as either a partner figure or a mum figure of his own (he's on the age boundary where it could go either way IMO - a small part of me does kinda ship them but also Ghosty (who is amazing) completely sold me on them having a parent/child dynamic instead) - Tontu is absolutely the middle sibling and sees everyone else in the household accordingly.

So yeah; I'm sorry if this is disappointing, and if you wanna headcanon that as Tontu's grandpa that's valid, but for me personally, the only paternal figure he needs is his mum:

Do you think there’s doctors for nisse?

Like, if a nisse needs medical treatment, where do they go?

Hmmm - they seem pretty resilient. They also don't seem to have a centralised society or anything. I suspect there are certain nisse or even sympathetic humans who will provide medical care, but it's very much a word of mouth thing and not the norm; nisse tend to learn to steal first-aid supplies and patch themselves up when they're young, and remain largely self-sufficient into adulthood.

Do you think Woodman's house has a nisse?

Probably not? I kinda headcanon they're an urban fae clade; they live in cities and towns because that's where the people are, and thus the houses, but being small creatures they don't tend to wander out far into the wilderness. So I don't personally think isolated cabins etc have nisse in general - I don't think Hilda's old house had one, either.

have random musical talent hc's i just had for no reason: -Hilda learned the guitar at a young age from her mum, and woodman helped a bit. -(this mostly formed from the fact he knows how to call a water spirit with a shell) Alfur is skilled with horns or trumpets!

-idk why but I picture Trevor being good at the drums, maybe its for venting out angers from his moms abuse but I see him playing the drums.

-We all know David is really good at singing, but what if Frida has a musical talent was well? Maybe one of her sparrow scout badges involved instruments or something.

Do you think that Johanna's behavior in S2 can be explained by what happened during "House in the Woods"? Hilda has disappeared for a day (or even two) which certainly never happened before. It's entirely possible that this was a traumatic experience for Johanna (she even thought for a moment that Hilda might be dead) which led to her overprotectiveness in S2.

Johanna couldn't help a sharp intake of breath at that, at the accusation and at the hurt, quiet but fierce, that lingered behind it. And for a moment, she didn't know what to say. Because Hilda was right; that morning, when her daughter had burst into the kitchen, announcing that Raven was going South for the winter and so giving her one last chance for a goodbye flight first, she had been worried.

Because she knew she should have trusted Raven, but the last time he'd taken her daughter, she'd ended up lost in the wilderness overnight. All that time, Johanna had been alone, with no idea where Hilda was or if she was safe or what was happening, waiting and worrying through all the awful moments, feeling anxious on top of anxious because what kind of mother would ever lose track of her child like that?

So she had been a little wary. And maybe that had been part of the reason why she'd asked to come along, just to make sure she knew what Hilda was doing, especially now; because recently, it did seem like Hilda hadn't been being fully honest with her, like there were other, similar moments like that first one, where she was being left in the dark.

I think it was 100% that, plus Frida’s parents’ comments to her about it during the ordeal. It all fed into her existing insecurities about being a mum and her existing struggles about the move to Trolberg and tipped her into a bit of an unhealthy place emotionally.

Do you think Johanna could legally adopt Tontu as her son? I just thought that it would be pretty cute if Tontu gave her adoption papers for her birthday :)

I don't think nisse are legally citizens of Trolberg? Like, human law doesn't apply to them IMO - it's something I plan to bring up if I eventually get back to the Runaway Hilda AU. But that means I can't see this happening :((

Did you ever have a personnel headcanon for why Hilda’s hair is blue?

I’m just curious since you don’t consider S3 canon.

My personal headcanon is that it’s just natural in this world but rare - Hilda’s world has a lot of ambient magic and small supernatural goings-on, and somewhere along the line, blue hair became one such thing. It possibly started with someone with fairy ancestry, centuries ago, or some witch did a spell, or something else, but it’s since stuck around and is rare but not unheard of.

In Hilda’s particular case, I do think it runs in her family; specifically, my version of Johanna’s grandfather on her mum’s side (the one who built the cabin in the wilderness - in my version of all this his name is Lars Brownstone) had it. How it skipped two generations? IDK but it’s possible someone on Hilda’s dad’s side has it too.
