I like to think that RBY found out about Weiss's birthday and decided to set up a surprise birthday party for her.

They invite everyone.

Penny.

Team JNPR

Sun.

Neptune.

Even Team CFVY.

And it's weird to her at first because she hasn't actually cared about her birthday since she was 10 but overtime she actually starts to enjoy it again.

Interesting character note: While the CFVY novels imply that Coco and Velvet are mutually attracted to each other, Coco believes that it's a bad idea for teammates to date each other.

The Bees are dating each other, even though they're both part of Team RWBY.

If they turn out to be even better after getting together...

That might convince Coco and Velvet to act on their feelings for each other.

Yeah, back when I first read the CFVY novels I got the sense that Myers was not exactly saying anything definitive in regards to Coco and Velvet getting together while also very much leaving the option open for potential development down the line (ergo; in the show proper).

Because yeah I definitely get the sense there is some mutual attraction between Coco and Velvet that they are low-key repressing, or at least downplaying and choosing not to pursue/explore.

Like to your point about Coco believing that dating teammates is a bad idea, I really get the sense that Coco considers Velvet ‘off limits’ to herself, so to speak? As in, this is a ‘I respect, admire and care about you too much’ type thing, as well as Coco likely considers acting on that attraction to Velvet to be an abuse of authority and a conflict of interest as team leader.

Which you know, feels very similar to what RUBY is dealing with as a leader as a ‘your team comes first and your own feelings/happiness comes a DISTANT second’ complex.

And given how perceptive we’ve seen Velvet, I get the sense she’s picked up on much of this and has come to the conclusion that Coco isn’t all that into her, or likewise that things just wouldn’t work between them. Possibly having bought into that similar mindset.

Or at least until they start seeing Blake and Yang being all ‘epic fairy-tale romance’ for each other lol

Honestly, Coco and Velvet really have all the hallmarks of a classic ‘ladykiller in love’ romance with a RWBY twist. Particularly with the bits we got from them in Chibi.

Also, bringing up Bumbleby in relation to Crosshares gave me an interesting thought; Velvet has also gotten a bit a ship-teasing with Yatsuhashi in the CFVY books, but what if Yatsu is basically meant to be the Sun to Velvet’s and Coco’s Blake and Yang?

Like I’ve had a theory for a few years now that the actual reason Blake didn’t act more on her growing feelings for Yang during Beacon was due to Yang’s being a major foil to Adam essentially given Blake ‘false red flags’. Ergo, a core part of the Bumbleby narrative is that Yang is the GENUINE version of all the things Adam was pretending to be for Blake. Which in turn is why Blake seemed to entertain a relationship with Sun for as long as she did; she may not have been as attracted to Sun as she was growing towards Yang, but Sun felt like a ‘safer’ alternative.

Which makes me wonder if something similar could be going on between Coco, Velvet and Yatsuhashi? Ergo; even if she isn’t pursuing any kind of full-blown romance with him, Velvet still considers a close friendship or otherwise with Yatsu to be a ‘safer’ alternative to whatever complicated feelings she may have towards Coco.

Having now completed my full rewatch of RWBY and with news allegedly on the horizon, I’ve been thinking about scenes/plot threads I’d like to see in V10/the Vacuo arc when it eventually comes:

I'd love to see Team CFVY and SSSN get more of a role, since the epilogue animatic shows us that the Crown (the antagonists of the tie-in novel Before the Dawn) get busted out of jail by Tyrian and Mercury

Speaking of the novels, it'd be nice to see some of the other characters make an appearance, even if it's just as cameos. It'd make sense for them to have Professor Rumpole as a supporting character, and with the culmination of Ruby's V9 arc being about how she needs to not shoulder everything and learn to ask for help, we might see her and the others attending a meeting of the Beacon Brigade (the support group for survivors of the Fall of Beacon that Team CFVY were founding members of)

I think Emerald is probably going to try and get Mercury to defect like she did. She already tried and failed before he left in V8, but in the security footage of the Crown's jailbreak he's looking like he's having second thoughts

Weiss reckoning with her feelings about the fall of Atlas could be interesting (the second Justice League crossover movie hints at this being part of her arc for the next volume, and while it wasn't a great movie I think there's some potential here)

Now that the Bees are together and everyone is converging in Vacuo, I really hope we get some ‘meet the parents’ scenes:

Yang being super nervous about meeting Blake’s parents, and then Ghira just sweeping her up in a bear hug while Kali takes one look at her and is just like “So, Blake, I can’t help but notice you have a Type™️”

And then on the other hand, Blake sees Raven and immediately starts hearing the Kill Bill sirens

The ‘Boba’ short said that Taiyang is on some secret assignment, so I’m picturing a scenario where they run into him on a mission/have to go rescue him and then awkwardly having to do introductions in the middle of running for their lives

Speaking of reactions to the Bees, I really want a running joke for the first ep of Nora just raking in lien from bets on if they would get together

Most of all, predictably, I really want more of Ruby mourning Penny.

I know it was a major arc in V9 already, but I think it should be an ongoing thing for her character as much as Jaune mourning Pyrrha has been for him since V3 (I recognise that I am biased). I think we didn't see much of her mourning the first time in V4-6 because A) It would have been kind of redundant since Jaune's arc (no pun intended) was already doing the same thing, B) They were planning to bring her back in V7, and C) She was still at the point of repressing everything because she was the leader and felt she had to be strong for everyone else.

In V9, however, we see Penny's second death having a much more noticeable effect on her: her reaction when Weiss tells her about it, the eulogy she gives for her after the auction, and her fight with Neo, to name a few examples. I've also seen other people point out the Romeo and Juliet parallels their arc has (i.e. Ruby attempting suicide by poison a little over a day after learning that Penny essentially committed suicide by sword, which she in turn had done shortly after seeing Ruby "die" when she fell).

So, with that in mind, there's a few things I'd like to see:

Some direct parallels to Jaune mourning Pyrrha in the Mistral arc: Ruby incorporating part of Floating Array into Crescent Rose like Jaune did with Pyrrha's circlet on his shield, or part of her Vacuo outfit being obviously an homage to Penny like Jaune's sash

Some sort of scene between Ruby and Pietro (and/or Winter) talking about Penny/comforting each other, possibly visiting the Gravestone seen in the epilogue animatic together

Ruby still not trusting the Ace Ops, particularly Harriet, because they were the ones who stole Penny's sword and helped Watts hack her

I've seen a few people writing/drawing variations of scenes where Ruby asks the Bees how they realised they loved each other and that being the catalyst for her realisation that she loved Penny (I have no expectations of this actually being in canon but if they do I'm gonna cry forever /pos)
