Going close to cities was stricy forbidden, but every now and then they dared to explore beyond their borders. Being found alone and almost drowning as a baby he got a Human name. But now, John awas part of an exploration team to scout the sea bed beyond the borders.
There were no interesting things to be found, only a pod of dolphins passing through. John sighed, resting for a moment and looking up at the sky. There were multiple ships, suddenly starting to fire at each other and creating a light show. The team cleared away while John curiously swam up, staying a safe distance away.
It lasted a few minutes before parts of one of the ships were falling off, falling into the water. As a huge mast plowed its way into the water, John wasn’t fast enough to dodge it. The wood slammed against his head and cut into his back and tail. The pain, unbearable. Confusing… lights… sounds…
Cold air filled his lungs making him gasp and cough up all the water from his lungs. He was being dragged on the beach, the sand stinging into the wounds. The sun stinged. There were multiple Humans standing around him once they dropped him on the sand, staring.
Afraid, he curled up a little while coughing up the remaining water. The stories of Humans killing his kind shot back in his mind as he saw multiple swords and knives being drawn. Please, not like this. What would they want?
Loki could see her half of her drawing their swords from the ship, and rolled her eyes, assuming it was the other Captain whose ship they had blown to pieces not too long ago. “Oi! Don’t go killing men left and right until they’ve given up their valuables.” She called out as she approached them.
Immediately the crew had parted to make a clear path for her to go through, and see what was going on. Briefly, Loki paused at the sight of the merman, eyebrows raising high enough to disappear beyond raven bangs.
“What do we have here?” She didn’t give anyone else a chance to answer. “Half fish, half... well we’ll just assume the top half is supposed to be man.” This earned a laugh from her men, though she was too busy studying the creature to laugh with them at her own joke.
