One Tree Hill: Why Mark Schwahn should thank the creators of How I Met Your Mother for having such a crappy series finale.
This may sound weird, Mark Schwahn (The creator and executive producer of One Tree Hill) really needs to thank Carter Bays and Craig Thomas (The creators of How I Met Your Mother) for How I Met Your Mother having such a crappy series finale that managed to ruin the entire series for not only me, but numerous other fans of How I Met Your Mother as well, in the span of just one hour. I had bought the first two seasons of How I Met Your Mother when they were on sale at Target months before the series finale aired with the intention of slowly buying every season of How I Met Your Mother on DVD since I had always watched the show rather casually with the exception of season 7 and the final season.
I finished watching the first season before the series finale aired, but I hadn't started watching season 2 when the finale aired. I'm still so upset about the series finale that I can't even bring myself to watch my season 2 DVDs or any episodes of How I Met Your Mother for that matter. The series finale of How I Met Your Mother has seriously ruined the entire series for me personally, and I'm definitely having major buyer's remorse now about buying the DVDs of the first two seasons of How I Met Your Mother.
As for what this all has to do with One Tree Hill, I've also wanted to do the same thing with that show since as much as I've always loved that show, I often fell behind on watching it when it was on the air. I would really love to buy all of the seasons on DVD, so I could watch every episode of One Tree Hill. I more recently bought the final season of One Tree Hill when it was on sale at Target, because aside from Amazon, that's where I buy a lot the DVD sets I buy these days. I already own the first and fourth seasons on DVD, so if Target had had seasons two and/or three available to buy at the store at that time, I probably would have bought those seasons instead. However, they only had the final season of One Tree Hill in stock and like I said, it was on sale, so I went ahead and bought it.
That being said, I've watched the first seven episodes of the ninth and final season of One Tree Hill, and I'm absolutely loving the final season so far. The final season isn't flawless, but it's still proving to be a really great season, if you ask me. I can't really explain what got me wanting to watch One Tree Hill again, but I'm really, really, really glad that I decided to start watching the show again. Now that I've abandoned my plans to buy the DVDs of every season of How I Met Your Mother, I think I'm going to do that with One Tree Hill instead.
Sorry, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, but you won't be getting any more of my money any time soon. I guess that's what you get when you insist on using old footage that you filmed all the way back when How I Met Your Mother was in its second season even though your original planned ending didn't fit with the way the characters had developed by the end of the series. I hope every show that you work on in the future completely bombs after the massive slap in the face that you call the series finale of How I Met Your Mother.
