what the fuck. what do you mean they got divorced. what the fuck. they were literally perfect for each other and now the stupid goddamn show writers are ruining my life. this is the stupidest thing to ever happen in a show ever
im close to finishing my himym rewatch (currently on s9e7) and man its such a shame that they fucked up the ending because season nine is SO fun ??? i know that a lot of people hate on the fact that they made the entire season about just three days but i think that (especially when binge watching it) its actually really interesting and allowed them to explore aspects that they previously couldnt fit into the show; theyre also experimenting with a lot of references and making parodies of i.e. popular movies because they could really just had fun with it. but then i think about the fact that any character development being shown to me is non-existent in the finale and it sucks so much
I think you should only be allowed to have an opinion on the himym finale if you were watching as it aired and being gaslit for years. If you know how it ends already you can never experience the betrayal first hand and will spend your whole watch trying to soothe yourself with justifications
Show - How I Met Your Mother
Character - Lily Aldrin
Actor - Alyson Hannigan
Number of seasons - 9
Lily Aldrin's wardrobe was as colourful as her paintings — and just as unpredictable. She dressed the way she lived- bold, bright, and a little unexpected.
A little more about the character: Lily is the best friend of the show's main character, Ted Mosby, and the wife of Marshall Eriksen, also the dear and best friend of Robin Scherbatsky and Barney Stinson. Lily is my favourite character of this show for a few reasons.
Firstly, Lily is the emotional anchor of the HIMYM friend group — empathetic, supportive, and always trying to keep everyone connected. She is sweet and nurturing with them, but also assertive and decisive when it comes to making life decisions. Her warm, loyal, and deep care towards her friends is always seen and highlighted throughout all the seasons of the show.
Secondly, even though Lily appears warm and gentle, she has a very strong core and mind. She isn’t afraid to voice her opinions or step in when her friends need a push in the right direction. Her assertiveness is borderline manipulation, but it always comes from a thought of care. Her belief in shaping situations instead of letting them occur passively makes her the protector, or as I'd like to call it, "the mom of the group". She's known to bring playfulness in and around her relationships and situations.
Character's style: Across nine seasons, Lily's fashion grew just as her character did. Through her fits, you could see how she grew up from being (and wearing) playful in the beginning, polished in the middle, and confident by the end. In Lily Aldrin's wardrobe, you'd find everything, from quirky prints to jewel tones, everything that'd make sure her clothes told the story of an artist who lived boldly.
Through seasons 1 to 3, her style was young, playful, and quirky, but in her own way. Her outfits reflected her youthful, bright energy and her artistic personality. She was seen wearing bold colours, prints, florals, layered cardigans, flared skirts, and/or skirts over tights-- setting her style much in line with the "early 2000s sitcom fashion". As of accessories, her go tos were chunky earrings, statement belts and pieces, and colourful bags. This style of hers from seasons 1-3 overall gave the vibes of an approachable, carefree, youthful, and spontaneous character everyone grew to love.
Moving on to seasons 4-6, she was seen experimenting more. Even though she settles into a marriage with the love of her life, Marshall, her style matured without losing its charm. Lily experimented with more polished workwear, fitted blouses, pencil skirts, and tailored jackets. Heels were replaced with more casual boots and shoes, but she still balanced her profession with her love for art. Sleeker hair and bold necklines gave us an idea of the transition from a whimsical, quirky young adult to a confident and stylish woman.
During her pregnancy and early motherhood through seasons 7-8, Lily's wardrobe prioritized comfort without sacrificing her love for standout looks. Stylish maternity, maxi dresses, tailored dresses, and structured blazers were seen paired with statement jewelry. Like those of big necklaces and more intentionally layered accessories. This gave her a more sophisticated look as her style matured.
Lastly, in season 9, she's the most self-assured character in the show. Lily embraces sleeker couture and silhouettes, elegant dresses, and chic looks. Accessories are still present but used in a more strategic way rather than chaotically. This final phase portrays her as a nurturing, ambitious woman who has fully embraced her individuality. She remains true to her own colourful personality.
How I would style the character in 2025: If Lily Aldrin were dressing in 2025, her wardrobe would be as fearless as her personality and vibrant as her Instagram page— but with a more modern edge.
Lily has always been the spark of colour in How I Met Your Mother. If she were to step in 2025, her fashion would evolve into something sleeker and more confident, still staying true to her artistic roots. Her wardrobe today would reflect her creative Instagram page based in Brooklyn.
Lily Aldrin has always loved bright colors, and that wouldn’t change in 2025. But instead of random mixes, I’d give her a more polished palette — jewel tones like emerald and ruby, mixed with soft pastels like lilac and blush. She’d wear bold color-blocking that makes her stand out but still looks mature and put together.
Her outfits would move toward modern, clean shapes. Oversized blazers with wide-leg pants would make her look confident, while flowy midi and maxi dresses with artistic prints would show her creative side. Co-ord sets in bright colors would give her a fun but polished vibe, perfect for both work and her social life.
Accessories would stay playful, just updated. She’d wear chunky resin earrings, bold metallic jewelry, and carry micro-bags in fun textures like velvet or metallics. Scarves would come back, styled as silk hair wraps or tied onto bags. Every accessory would feel like a little piece of art.
Shoes would be comfortable but stylish. Chunky sneakers for casual days, block heels and ankle boots for nights out. To reflect her painter side, she’d also wear custom or hand-painted sneakers — unique pieces that no one else would have, mostly because she would DIY it.
Conclusion: In 2025, Lily Aldrin’s style would finally grow with her. She’d still keep the bright colors and playful details she’s always loved, but they would be styled in a smarter, more modern way. Her wardrobe would show that she’s an artist at heart — bold, expressive, and unique — while also proving she’s confident and put together. Lily’s fashion in 2025 would be the perfect mix of quirky and chic, a balance that makes her stand out without ever losing her true personality.
Just saying I would've been ok with the ending of HIMYM if they didnt make barney and Robin get a divorce and he went back to Victoria not robin. I state my case.
