I think Hinata hurts so much when Boruto is shitting on Naruto, especially on Hima-chan’s birthday and Boruto has his whole “Dads just lucky he didn’t have to experience the ‘joy’ of having a parent around” tirade.

This probably hurts on two fronts.

It’s never stated in cannon that Hinata’s mother is dead. But besides the one time we see her, in a photo when she is very young, she is absent the rest of the series. In fact she is either with Kurenai or Ko, if she’s not with her father. So either her mother is dead or absent and she really does know the feeling of not having her around. Making Boruto’s comment pretty cutting, since she obviously looked up to her mother in the whole Pain arch “strong like father, kind like mother”-thingy.

But also, she probably understands some of Boruto’s feelings towards Naruto. I’m sure we can all agree Hinata and Hiashi’s relationship is pretty messed up, her getting ignored and treated poorly and set aside by her father. Not that Boruto is abused by Naruto but still. She’s obviously empathetic to his feelings.

I think this is why she’s so understanding of his bratty behavior.

But she also knows that Naruto loves Boruto but is just busy and doesn’t know how to show it.

Hinata is legit like when your reading a miscommunication fanfic when both characters love each other but something comes in between them and she can only sit back and watch it play out, knowing full well if both sides could just hash it out it would be fine.
