     billy owes kate too much. mostly for keeping him grounded. there isn’t much left from four years ago, when he hung up his cape in his closet and tried not to look at it since. and ( in a really, really gross way ) he hasn’t gotten around to washing it either. he can’t. it’s...

     he gives kate a coffee in the mug she likes, the designated kate cup for whenever she comes over. even his dad knows the do’s and don’ts of a hawkeye coffee by now, and he’s welcomed kate in like another child since it all happened. since billy stopped bringing other friends home, and kate stopped training with clint. and since billy stopped holding hands with another boy on the couch, and since kate stopped making as many snarky remarks. dad mode activate, he guessed. 

     billy fills his own mug at the kitchen counter ( tea, he’s on a strict no coffee rule for the sake of his sanity ), like he’s mulling over things on the tip of his tongue and waiting for clarity. he finds it while staring at an off-colour ingrain in the wood of the cabinets. ❛ ...you know that receptionist at the hospital? ❜ the one with the hair, he and kate have half-joked about before. only half-joked. ❛ he asked me to get coffee with him. like coffee coffee. ❜
