Hi :) What's KVips opinion on other rookie groups like BlockB or BTS who have similar style to Big Bang? I know IVIP's sometimes like them while others greatly dislike them. Also how do they see younger rappers like Zico who gets compared to Gdragon by many?

I do not care very much for them (I have never heard of BTS before), I think just like with international fans, some Korean VIP like other hip hop groups and some do not, I personally do not care about idol groups other than BIGBANG but I do like hip hop music from other singers.

For every male group that debuted after 2007, you can see the shadow of BIGBANG on them. I think that maybe people who do not live in Korea or who did not like Korean music before 2007 cannot understand the type of influence that BIGBANG has had on Korean music. There is such a huge difference between male idols before BIGBANG and after BIGBANG. Some people say that BIGBANG did not invent rap or hip hop, that is true. But it is the same as if they did in Korea, because for Korea, BIGBANG is the beginning of that. So few people paid any attention or liked rap and hip hop before 2007, you could not find any of those songs on the charts. BIGBANG changed that, suddenly it became the trend and still is. They set a new standard for male idols, they made a new fashion. No group before 2007 felt the need to have a “rapper,” no group felt the need to have a “composer.” Every single one of these hip hop boy groups used BIGBANG’s name in the beginning to get attention, and some even do now. I am not at all joking. Every agency, when debuting a new boy group, put out articles saying “fashion like BIGBANG” or “skills like G-Dragon” or something similar to that, it is the same as every year companies will pay journalists to write articles like “is this group going to overtake BIGBANG?” We are used to it all.

I think what you are asking about is whether there are fights between the fanclubs when it comes to hip hop groups similar to BIGBANG’s style, and yes, there have been many fights. We do not care when junior groups dress like BIGBANG (it happens too commonly for us to stop them), we do not even care when they sing songs like BIGBANG’s most recent album. But what we do not like is when these younger groups’ fans try to deny that they are inspired by BIGBANG. Because they are too young to know what BIGBANG has done, they think that they are the ones who are the first, they are setting the trend. Sometimes the younger fanclubs even say that it is time for the old fanclubs to go away so that they can be the top fanclub. That is when we get annoyed. But honestly, BIGBANG is not on the level of any of these groups, so VIP do not care very much. It is never a VIP who tries to compare a junior group with BIGBANG or a junior rapper with G-Dragon. That has never happened. So we are in a fortunate position whenever such arguments come up, because BIGBANG’s name already says that we have no need to prove anything.
