Climate Rally | Keystone XL Pipeline
Info on the biggest climate rally in the nation.
The Hip Hop Caucus, Sierra Club, and 350.org are co-convening, with over 200 other partners, the largest climate rally in history in Washington DC on Saturday February 17 — 20,000 people will be coming to this rally.
Next week begins with the State of the Union, where the President is expected to echo his comments from the inauguration about tackling climate change. There will be events/actions through out the week. And the capstone event is the rally with 20,000 people in on Saturday.
President Obama was right to deny the Keystone tar sands pipeline proposal the first time, and if he does what’s right he’ll stop the pipeline again. He alone has that power. This pipeline runs through American, not to America. Keystone XL is designed to export Canadian oil to foreign countries and would not help our energy independence. It will saddle Americans with all the health risks and increase carbon emissions, which are now cooking the planet and leading to more extreme weather such as Hurricane Sandy. Instead of playing politics around a pipe-dream, we need to focus on the things that most contribute to our energy security – strengthening America’s clean energy economy by moving forward with the Administration’s new standards for fuel efficiency and shutting down the country’s dirty coal plants.
We expect to take over the national media this week our message: we support the president but we intend to push him to act with the force and urgency that climate change requires.
