So @askstarfrost mod and I were talking chickens the other night and we got on the topic of pheasants, especially the really exotic ones. We ended up making some pheasant ponies/Hippalektryon. xD

I picked the Lady Amherst’s (Chrysolophus amherstiae) to base mine from! First is a normal C.amherstiae, then a Melanistic (for lack of a better/more correct term), then a Golden x Amherst’s hybrid!

They were really fun to do! Detailed, but oh so worth it~ They’re gorgeous birds to use and I hope to see more of them get used in character designing!

Adoptables Batch: Uncommon Mythologies Rnd. 2

All birbs this time! A gryphie and two hippalektryon! Yeah, gryphies ain’t that uncommon, but the bird in this one isn’t a common choice of eagle!

SOLD! $20 - Bateleur Gryphon: An acrobatically-inclined birbcat, for certain! The Bateleur is known for rocking its wings in flight, like a tightrope walker keeping their balance. They might be a little bit cocky in their agility, and their steering is aided slightly by the short feathers on both sides of the end of their tail. SOLD! $20 - Brahma Vanner Hippalektryon : A handsome black and white fellow with fluffy feets for days! He’s a Gypsy Vanner x Light Brahma and is likely a gentle sort who might be in show circles. (Once adopted, feel free to make up whatever spots/blotches are hidden by his mane!) SOLD! $20 - Curly Cochin Hippalektryon: A permafloof golden gal with an upbeat disposition, she’s a (Bashkir) Curly x Frizzle Cochin. Almost every feather on her body is curled forward, except her primaries. Even her ear fluff and eyelashes are curly!

Adoptables Batch: Uncommon Mythologies

Just a set of horse-like mythological creatures that aren’t seen as often in the fandom. Well, mostly. xD Plus one Kirin. Besides the Kirin, there’s a Longma and two Hippalektryon up for grabs here! By no means are they restricted to MLP-verse use. I enjoyed making these babies~ Their species were good to get back in touch with! Maybe next time I can go for some more obscure ones, but I do love these~ <3

SOLD! $20 - Mt. Fuji Kirin: Inspired by the mountain itself, I had meant to add some autumnal Japanese maple leaves in their design to contrast against their snowy palette. Didn’t happen, but still a nice touching-of-base with a generic single-horn Kirin design! SOLD! $20 - Blue Fire Longma: A personal interpretation of the Dragon Horse/Longma, with “fiery” mane and tail hair and feathers instead of actual flame. They probably can summon forth real fire, though, colored the same as their hair/plumage is! Those peacock-style pennant feathers stem from the top of their wings, too. SOLD! $20 - Arabian Game Hippalektryon: A fellow with a regal air about him, thanks to the nearly-upright carriage of his cockerel half’s breed (Modern Game Fowl) and the show-poses of his horse half’s breed (Arabian). His color is known as Pyle/Pile in chicken circles. SOLD! $20 - Dapple Cochin Hippalektryon: A smol fluff who’s probably normally quite gentle and motherly until she gets real mad. Cochins (her chicken half) are known for their sweet dispositions and mothering ability. Plus, they got those adorable feathery-bell-bottom-pants goin’ on! Her particular color is known as “blue”, though really it looks more like charcoal!

They’re all gone~ Keep an eye out for another batch!

Hippalectryon . Those Greeks sure do love their half horse creatures. This time, half horse half rooster. Strangely, there are no myths associated with this beast, appearing only in iconography, or used as a term of insult by some 5th Century scholars. As such, little is known about its purpose or role, and its connection to Poseidon as protector of ships is mere speculation.
