Another background practice piece! This time with Athenuil and his club, featuring a few other OCs as well. Another piece from LibraryVerse. It was a lot of fun, though a bit of a confusing thing to figure out at first.

Hipps /  El Michels Affair (Big Crown Records, 2020)

Avec Adult Themes, c’est clairement une bouteille à la mer que lance Leon Michels: comme un CV grandeur nature jeté dans les boîtes aux lettres des cinéastes du monde: “embauchez-moi pour faire vos satanés B.O. bordel de merde! Vous attendez quoi????” Si avec ces douze titres magnifiques, le message ne passe pas, c’est à ne plus croire dans les oreilles du 7e Art. Après, il faut qu’il se méfie le Leon parce qu’avec ce titre de disque, c’est plutôt les producteurs de films X qui vont s’empresser de le contacter - ce qui peut avoir son charme aussi. Et même si Jacquie, Michel ou Marc ont plein de qualités, c’est plutôt Quentin, Martin ou Spike que l’Américain convoite avec cette soundtrack imaginaire pleine de rebondissements, de moments funk et de séquences soul.

Il faut dire que son titre peut s’entendre comme un Thèmes d’Adultes tout comme un Thèmes pour Adultes. Et tous les morceaux jouent clairement sur la polysémie entre être adulte/parent (on entend les pleurs de son fils sur “Life of Pablo”) et être adulte/personne en capacité légale et physique d’avoir des relations sexuelles consenties (d’où la “Villa” qui évoque immanquablement l’imaginaire érotique). “Munecas” peut vouloir dire poupées (cf. adulte/parent) mais aussi poignets (cf. adulte/personne en capacité légale et physique d’avoir des relations sexuelles attachées). Pareil pour “Swift Nap”, qui peut suggérer le repos du bébé comme la sieste crapuleuse. Quant à “Kill The Lights”, ça peut être l’extinction des feux pour le dodo ou pour les galipettes.

Bref, une fois analysés tous ces jeux de rôle que propose Leon Michels et sa clique dans ce Adult Themes, on peut ajouter que El Michels Affair parvient à magnifiquement se renouveler après Enter the 37th Chamber et Return To The 37th Chamber leur génial diptyque hommage à la soul kung-fu samplée par le Wu-Tang Clan. Avec cette fausse naïveté, ces lignes de basse bien membrées, ces claviers nuageux, ces flûtes aériennes, ces batteries imperturbables, c’est à présent à toute la grande tradition de la library music que les Américains rendent leur tribut. Et on comprend mieux la ligne tenue entre B.O. de films traditionnels et soundtracks de films coquins puisque des gens comme Alain Goraguer (cf. “Rubix” qui rappelle La Planète Sauvage), Piero Umiliani ou Vladimir Cosma franchissaient allègrement cette ligne rose.

Résultat, Adult Themes est un véritable concentré de plaisir(s) une ode aux fantasmes et autres rêveries. Un disque léger comme une plume de plumard après l’amour qui, comme la library music, peut servir de B.O. à pas mal de choses très variées. Pourvu que l’imagination de l’auditeur soit à la hauteur. Serez-nous plutôt de la team grandeur avec “Life of Pablo” ou plutôt de l’équipe mimi représentée par “Enfant”? Là est la question.
