All we looking for here at Da Den is something authentically different from the norm. Of it needs to be dope, but just a break away from what we all hear everyday on the radio. That is what we got with the latest from MF SKUM. This is the first I’ve heard from the 17 year old emcee, but I’m sure we will become familiar with what he has to say, especially with his Civilized Genocide EP on the way. He linked with HiriiTheHuman over Luke Bonds production for “Rest Room”. Just a taste of what’s to come.

HiriiTheHuman-808sAndAstralTapes(Album Review)

HiriiTheHuman is a 16 yr old NY MC and producer. 808sAndAstralTapes is his debut project. This album is largely a product of Hirii's influences, which seem to some what of a mixture of what's going on in the New York hip-hop scene now. So you'll hear some trap style instrumentals along with some cloud rap haze that is very reminiscent claim casino's production style for A$AP Rocky. This isn't necessarily bad these instrumentals are actually pretty good. Often very lucid and trippy they often create the perfect palette from a rapper like HiriiTheHuman to spit over.

Lyrically, though you'd expect at 16 for Hirii to sound a tad amateurish which a times he can but he definitely sounds mature for his age. He already displays a talent for multiple flows and cadences. Content wise you'll get some drug raps in there and some talks of reaching a third eye plane which is very reminiscent Beast Coast rappers. There's also some love songs here to. Even though everything feels familiar on this album Hirii's able to create his own world and personality with his music. He often makes weird little instrumental interludes that lead from one track to the other which gives the project an other worldly feel.

So all in all I have to say I was impressed by this project. I think HiriiTheHuman has a lot of potential as both as producer and a rapper. He just has to keep looking to grow and expanding his music sonically and topically. Aside from maybe a couple tracks I thought this tape was a pretty interesting listen.
