The Pasithea Powder

Title: The Pasithea Powder

Review Conducted After: Series Completion

What's it About: Post-war, former enemies work together to uncover a conspiracy.

Strengths: This is easily one of the best piece of audio fiction out there. Just amazingly written.

Weaknesses: Some weak voice acting with some of the smaller roles, but given that most of the dialogue is the two leads (who are phenomenal), this is a very minor quibble.

Other Notes: I went into this one with very little foreknowledge, was instantly hooked, and then proceeded to binge the series as fast as I conceivably could.

The White Vault

Title: The White Vault

Review Conducted After: Season 2

What's it About: Arctic exploration gone wrong. Story is told through the records left behind.

Strengths: Solid acting, excellent tension, amazing sound quality.

Weaknesses: By golly, the characters are just TOO likeable!

The White Vault is similar to The Terror in that you go into knowing that most all the characters are going to die one by one. But unlike The Terror, where most of the characters can't go five minutes without saying something racist, the characters in The White Vault are the sort you get attached to.

And then they die one by one. The result is, well, depressing. It's why I - at least for the time being - dropped this one.

Now, if you're a fan of whump and downer endings, definitely give this one a listen and enjoy as Rocks Fall; Everyone Dies.

Other Notes: This one advertises itself as "featuring languages and voices from around the globe", so do keep in mind that if you're listening for the Representation that this is a Kill 'Em All series.

The Harbingers

Title: The Harbingers

Review Conducted After: Episode 14

What's it About: Magic rings grant their wears great power in the modern world. Now two magicians are being witnessed prepped ahead of a congressional hearing, with the story unfolding in flashbacks.

Strengths: This audio drama is phenomenal. Just all around easily the cream of the crop. Special shout out to its delightful use of unreliable narrators.

Weaknesses: None.

Other Notes: This series is still fairly new, so I expect I'll revisit this review later to fill it out more.

Mabel

Title: Mabel

Review Conducted After: Episode 19

What's it About: Avant-garde cross of "Good Luck, Babe" with the Fair Folk, told primarily through voice mail messages as a home health care worker tries to contact the granddaughter of her client.

Strengths: Good pacing. Mabel is very deliberate with when it reveals information, and it has a strong commitment to using diegetic audio.

Weaknesses: TBD

Other Notes: I haven't listened to enough of this one to give it a proper assessment, so it's mostly just being catalogued for now.
