Since 1822, when Delegate Joseph Marion Hernández of Florida became the first Hispanic American to serve in Congress, a total of 102 Hispanic Americans have served as U.S. Representatives, Delegates, Resident Commissioners, or Senators.
The most recent publication of the House history office was presented on July 31, 2014 at the Research Center of the National Archives. It was presented by the Center for Legislative Archives.
“Hispanic Americans in Congress 1822-2012” is the third in a series of books by the House history office. The first two books in the series are “Women in Congress” and “Black Americans in Congress.” The three books have a total page count of 2,573.
The special guest was Matt Wasniewski, the Historian of the House of Representatives, who gave an educational and historic background and information on some of the influential Hispanic Americans that are featured in the book.
The book is available as a hard copy at the Library of Congress. Quantity is limited! A free-of-charge E-book will be launched, possibly, by the end of the year. The copy is available on PDF.
