This 1869 school in Ohio was sold for $55,000. It looks like someone had already started to work on converting it, but there’s ONE thing in it that totally fascinates me.
This is what I would buy it for- this huge, ornate, ancient furnace. I wouldn’t remove it, but leave it as a feature wall. There’s a gigantic black one in the library where I work- it was too heavy to dismantle, and is it creepy.

Have you heard of the Secondary Industrial School in Columbus, Georgia? This grand masonry building was constructed in 1906 in the Beaux Arts style. The school was built to further the education of the children of the area's millworkers. When the school opened, it offered instruction in carpentry, blacksmithing, textiles, typewriting and other business skills, and was the first school in the nation to combine vocational and academic courses in a public school system.
The Secondary Industrial School was added to our Places in Peril list in 2012. Currently, the school is offered for sale by the Muscogee County School District. What compatible re-use can you imagine for this striking building?
