Kokomi in kimono!
I'm not very far in Genshin just yet so... guess what Archon quest I was working on when I started this series? Kokomi was an interesting character to redesign, I really enjoy the ones where I get to hide character details in the design. When looking at Kokomi's game design I decided to go with modern kimono inspiration so I could get the split color scheme, a front bow and the long sleeves. I also included an extra outer layer/shawl for some extra scallop details and the fins behind her. I'm almost tempted to do another one for Kokomi though... a Heian inspired look might be really interesting...

I’m starting to do a series that consists of evaluating and redesigning historically inaccurate costumes from dress up games (among other things). This time, I’m going to transform a dress from the game Dress Up! Time Princess. A very cursed game about main character girl travelling to the 18th century Narnia style and merging with the body and mind of Marie Antoinette. (Thanks, @ingrid15501 ) Most of the costuming for women is very inaccurate and I’m here to fix it.
Today, I’m going to fix this dress with a garden fairy aesthetic seemingly trying to emulate the peasant clothing at the time.
Accuracies:
1. Some peasant women do wear straw hats during the day, even though bonnets are more commonplace.
2. Some peasant women do wear the stays over everything.
3. The shoes at least look historically possible
Inaccuracies:
1. Bangs like that one in the picture weren’t a thing back then
2. Buns were worn instead of ponytails to keep the hair out of the way so that the woman can work without her hair in the way.
3. She should be wearing fichu to avoid her breasts slipping from her garments.
4. The stays should stop on the boobs instead of under them. The one in the picture gave no support to the breasts.
5. The lacing on the stays should look like zig zags instead of multiple straight lines.
6. 18th century bum rolls are more apparent than the one in the picture, so it should be sitting higher in her dress. (Girl reposted in the wrong century 🌚)
7. She should be wearing stockings, it is considered immodest to not wear them in public.
The fix:
Things that stayed the same:
1. The hat
2. The necklace
Things that I slightly altered:
1. The top now has a squared neckline
2. I purposefully made the dress less detailed to fit what a lady in the working class would wear in the 18th century
3. I made the apron look more plain
Drastic changes:
1. I ditched the bangs and the ponytail in favour of a simple updo.
2. I added a fichu
3. The stays now stop on her breasts, hence squishing them upwards
4. I added bum rolls that make her hips and butt look wider.
5. I added stockings
So, that’s all for this redesign. Feel free to recommend me costumes to fix in the comments, or even making me play other historical dress up games just so that I can pick them apart (or you can recommend me costumes from other media like movies or TV shows as well).
Some of the reference images I looked at while creating my Clara from The Nutcracker redesign!
P.S. These "mood boards" are bonus features and are not replacements for the OG posts.
