are you like a reenactor?

Yes and no.

There’s a historical dance group in my area as well as a historical costuming society, and I attend a lot of their events. So no in the sense of “I go on multi-day camping trips and reenact specific historical events like Civil War battles,” but yes in the sense of “I get dressed up in historical clothing and do historical things.”

Often I’ll say things like “reenactor problems” because it seems simpler than “historical costumer who also goes to balls problems.” And because not every costumer goes out and does physical period things in their costumes; some make outfits mostly for cons and photoshoots and the like. So it’s a different set of experiences that, to my mind, has a lot in common with reenacting. (It also influences what I make and how I make it. Making a ball gown to dance in has different requirements than making a ball gown to stand still and pose for pictures in.)
