STOP DESTROYING VIDEO GAMES
Is the name of the European Citizens Initiative that wants to force publishers that the games YOU BUY must stay in a FUNCTIONAL AND PLAYABLE STATE even after support for them has ended.
Think of single player games that require you to connect to an online server. What happens when those servers are shut down? If the company goes bankrupt or simply stops supporting the game?
Give your support !
The frustrating reality is that some publishers just do not care about what happens, they basically nuke the entire game and move on to new, bigger ventures, leaving the people that have already bought the game with nothing to show for the money they have spent.
TO QUOTE THE OBJECTIVE:
„Specifically, the initiative seeks to prevent the remote disabling of videogames by the publishers, before providing reasonable means to continue functioning of said videogames without the involvement from the side of the publisher.“
It is NOT asking for games to receive new content forever, or to own the intellectual rights OR the monetisation rights associated with them.
IT IS an appeal that once you buy a Game from a publisher you should be protected by the consumer right to continue owning the product you have have purchased, without being deprived of it.

At the time of writing this post the initiative is currently at 490,500 out of 1,000,000 signatures, which is 500 away from being HALFWAY THERE!
The deadline is the 31st of July 2025.
