The Collective Respectfully Refuse

When one kills he doesn’t simply kill. He consumes. He takes everything from his victims. Everything they are and everything they ever will be. Their memories. Their abilities.
Chrissy couldn’t really be sure about that one either. Maybe she had been before… but it was becoming harder and harder to remember what was before all this? Remembering was like trying to tune a radio with bad reception. Mostly static but in those few moments of clarity, she recalled cutting remarks, aches, inadequacy, blond hair and possessive hands… silver rings, dark eyes and cozy smiles that wrapped around her like a blanket…
Those were… nice. Warming even, but too shallow and infrequent to combat the onslaught of prickling barbs. She shied away from it and contented herself to watch the lives she was immersed in. None of them were hers. Extracting herself from them was overwhelmingly strenuous, and really, why bother? It was beginning to dawn on her that all of this might be her now.
