Umbrella Revolution in Hong Kong (Day 17)
This is Day 17 of the movement in Hong Kong.
From news earlier that barricades made by the protesters have been cleared by the Police this morning in Admiralty and Causeway Bay. The barricades were made in bamboo strokes and cement during the late night before and were then been removed immediately in the morning at 10:00! While the Police claimed that they are not taking action to "clear the area".
At around 11:30 tonight, protesters rushed to a vehicle tunnel in Lung Wo Road, which is a main transportation route to Central and the exact route to the Chief Executive Office. They were having some mutual confrontation with the Police. Reported pepper spray were used.
Later, live broadcast from TVB (which is a mainstream television station with high frequency of self-censorship) showed that protesters are packed in the tunnel and the fully armed policemen were about to take action to "dispense" the crowd (with their batons already held on their shoulders...) Again, the crowd only had opened umbrellas in their hands.
Policemen left the tunnels after a while since they were surrounded by protesters (protesters let them go in a peaceful way) Therefore Lung Wo Road is now taken by the protesters. There are also summons in Admiralty and Central for expansion of occupied area.
Now we have 3 occupied areas in Hong Kong - Admiralty : Around the Central Government Offices Causeway Bay : the busy Yee Wo Street Mong Kok : Nathan Road with lots of shops mainly selling luxurious goods to Mainlanders.
The day after (15 Oct) is the first meeting of the Legislative Council after summer break, which was postponed a week ago. The pro-government lawmakers stated last week that they were concerned about the security (their safety) in the area and some even said that they need to hold on their dignity when they come for meeting (implied that meeting / encountering protesters are harmful to their dignity as a Legislative Councillor)
From news, the lawmakers would be protected on their way to the Legislative Council Complex, which is also in the surrounding areas of protesters.
