HM64 Ann is the granddaughter of HMSNES Ann. Given his red hair, Doug is presumably SNES Ann's son. Why doesn't he know that Ann got her rough ways from her grandmother? Is Doug not the son of SNES Ann? Did he even know SNES Ann?
Actually the more I think about it, SNES Ann being the mother of Ann's mom makes some sense. Ann and Gray's mother died sometime before the game begins. It's not stated how long ago, but some of the dialog suggests that it's been quite a long time, so she was relatively young when she died. SNES Ann has also died before HM64, and her grandchildren don't seem to remember her personally, so maybe she died quite young as well.
And, we know that Gray used to ride Cliffgard, but for some unspecified reason, he is no longer able to. Is it possible that there's some genetic issue, like a bad heart, or something, running in the family?

"Grandma's grandson" is such an awkward way to say it. I bet later that night, Karen was lying in bed, unable to sleep, thinking "why did I call Cliff my grandma's grandson"

And with that, Mana and her son depart.
Her son is one of the few characters from Harvest Moon 64 that don't appear in Back to Nature or Friends of Mineral Town, and with such a small part in this game, he's faded into obscurity.
Mana's son has got to be one of the most obscure characters in the entire franchise.
I've been taking pretty good care of Bingo. I have a good feeling about this race!
I can't find the post, but one time I managed to trigger one or two rival weddings and couldn't take care of the cows, so Doug scolded me.
The worst part was that one of the weddings was Gray's. Or Ann's. Or maybe both back to back. I don't remember. I just remember Doug scolding me and it was very unfair
