hold me like a grudge (chapter one)
Fandom: Mean Girls
Pairing: Regina/Janis
Rating: Not Rated
Words: 5,861
Summary: Janis is just logging off of her computer, ready to go home, when the door to her classroom bangs open. There’s the sound of high heels on tile before a tall, blond woman comes to a stop in front of her desk. Janis takes a moment to acknowledge that, one, this woman is insanely hot, and two, she looks pissed. “Can I… help you?” “You can, actually,” the woman says, hooking a pair of sunglasses into the neckline of her blouse. The weight of the glasses tugs the already low-cut fabric down even more, revealing more cleavage. “You can open up whatever system you use for logging grades and change my daughter’s grade.”

Janis 'Imi'ike is a high school art teacher. Regina George is a recently divorced single mother. A failing grade sets them on a collision course.

hold me like a grudge is begging me to ask what it is about for the WIP ask game 👀
Oooh I was hoping someone would ask about this one! Thank you!
Hold Me Like A Grudge is an AU of We Didn't Start The Fire: Instead of moving to Grandpa's farm, Ava/Phoenix tries to dip her toes back into hero work after quitting her JojaCo gig... And she immediately gets shut down—after all, JojaCo's been dragging Phoenix's name through the mud to cover their own *ahem* technically legal, but also blatantly negligent, workplace safety standards. No hero will work with her, corporate sponsors avoid her like the plague, every civilian she saves looks at her like they're scared she's going to set them on fire next...
So she goes: Well, fine! I guess I'm a villain, now! This is definitely a choice that I made, on my own, and also I did screw up by setting the fire so maybe I am a villain, actually! I deserve this!!
As Phoenix, she held herself to a "perfect-or-nothing" standard, and now that "perfect" isn't an option... Well, she's already bad, so nothing she does matters, right? (She tells herself this. She does not actually believe it.) She takes on a few questionable mercenary jobs, steamrolling over her own discomfort about collateral property damage and about getting paid for it—it's socially acceptable for heroes to accept ad sponsorships from companies, but if a hero's compensated for their work directly instead of volunteering their powers for the public good, they're seen as less of a hero, but she's gotta pay her rent somehow—!
And then Sebastian (who's been searching desperately for her) manages to hack the intercoms midway through a job and goes, Wait, you actually became a merc/villain? And she immediately gets ashamed and panicky, because he's the last person she ever wanted to see her like this (see, she doesn't believe nothing she does matters!), and he goes: Okay, how can I help?
Cue them meeting in person (upon which Ava has her usual "oh nooo he's hot??" moment), followed by a) lots of mutual pining, and b) Seb gradually coming to the horrifying realization that being a superhero and public figure has given Ava so much more trauma than she ever let on. They team up, Seb convinces Ava that JojaCo is The Real Bad Guy Here and one instance of accidental dumpster arson does not a villain make, and their obvious next step is to take down JojaCo and clear Phoenix's name so she can take up her mask and become a hero again...
But of course, as in WDSTF, Kel/Supercell holds the key to getting into the FRBI's servers, so the question becomes: How far is Phoenix willing to go to clear her name? Is regaining her perfect mask and public image worth trading for her actual identity (as a hero who does good even when no one believes she is good)? And how far is Sebastian willing to follow her before finally going, I believe you're good, which means you're going to hate yourself for this once it's done, and I love you too much to stand by and watch you do this to yourself?
