Toward the end of show three at Wembley Stadium, as Noel and Liam Gallagher walk off stage with “Don’t Look Back In Anger”, “Wonderwall” and “Champagne Supernova” still in the tank, there’s a very small part of me that worries they won’t actually come back. It’s an absurd thought – rock music’s most cantankerous siblings have been on tour for the guts of a month now, and they’ve returned for lengthy encores at every stop along the way. But the reputation they’ve built for themselves over the past 15 years since their breakup is so powerful that it has broken my brain, along with that of the 90,000 other bucket-hat-wearing, pint-chucking attendees. In that moment, it dawned on me that Oasis has cultivated something that very few artists have in 2025: mystique. Over the years, we’ve all been conditioned to believe – by the many, many interviews they’ve given in which they’ve slagged each other off – that this reunion is fragile. Many fans questioned whether they’d make it through the rehearsals without throttling each other. And since the tour was announced, Noel and Liam have kept uncharacteristically quiet, staying away from the press entirely – perhaps for fear of giving anyone the impression that, actually, they’re getting on just fine. funny to call it mystique when arguably their personal business has been hyper-scrutinized for decades but somehow... that is exactly what it is!
of course, the notion they'd ~throttle each other (not like that) during rehearsals etc falls apart the moment you actually look closer at the history of their relationship. for the umpteenth time I look at this all and think, damn, there should be a college course on the power of media narratives using oasis as a case study.
First image shows Smerdyakov singing with a cute little guitar with a bow on it in the 1968 film for The Brothers Karamazov, which keeps the chapter "Smerdyakov with a Guitar" and his decent relationship to Marya Kondratievna. Meanwhile the 2009 miniseries decides to replace it with a very on the nose scene of Smerdyakov with a butcher's knife that ends with sexual harassment towards Marya (who looks at him with disgust rather than affability and respect). I don't care how accurate the miniseries is in keeping the storylines, this was a choice I will never forgive them for. I wonder what even the purpose of this was? (I mean, I think I may know, but it's just speculation)
MASON IS THE BEAST. LIKE I FULLY FORGOT THIS THERE’S NO WAY. as soon as Corey stopped kissing him i was like oh it’s him isn’t it. but i have no recollection of this?? so the reveal still got me
if it was an amicable story driven decision why havent you guys asked supriya to talk about it herself 👀
the tzegras school of self-regulation
I suppose that since Eldritchrune lacks a player, the closest thing to an analog would be Ralsei since he owns their soul. Perhaps Spamton warns of exactly how much control Ralsei has over them because of that. Control he hasn’t used, but very well could.
There's definitely some different and interesting angles that could be approached with Spamton freaking out Kris, yup!
