I was a little upset yesterday, when, after watching the good omens finale with my parents, I asked them in turn what they thought and for once they were in agreement: the gay bit at the end was forced, unnecessary and clearly a symptom of Corporate pandering to the Gays.
At first I found it funny, or interesting at least, how something so clearly established, so well developed, so.. inevitable —could possibly come off as either "forced" or "unnecessary." What a fascinating difference in our cultures and perception. These people raised me!
Then I found it a little sad. As much as I appreciate their financial support - it was a tad disheartening to find I was, for once, right. That, along with their simmering disdain for my chosen profession, they'd likely be similarly unsupportive of my personal life.
But now, having given it a day, I think I find it funny again. Were they entirely oblivious to Aziraphale and Crowley's sexuality because the only other .. ostensibly foreign man they know ..is me?
What's a wet box :0
why write an essay when you can make a tumblr post out of the base components and whatever halfbaked metaphors & references you have lying around?
if it's good post, eventually someone'll divine an intended meaning from subliminal messages hidden in the punctuation, and I can just screencap their tags. like if rube and goldberg got back together one last time to make a typewriter designed specifically for monkey paws
I hope people in-universe find so much love and hope and meaning in John's half-remembered tumblr references. I hope they quote them during speeches, frame them on walls. I hope there's one hundred million pages on goncharov. I hope people name their children after them. I hope he has no idea.
