Sunday! Time to squeeze out a few important points reviewing what we've learned this week and filling you in on what's next! First up, differential diagnosis and the importance of keeping in mind that there are many conditions which can cause hypermobility syndromes. Our thanks to Rachel Martin for agreeing to support the HMSA in raising awareness of Loeys-Dietz syndrome and Marfan syndrome and the potential overlap of symptoms which can confuse diagnosis. Remember - your doctor’s diagnosis is always provisional. You may well have what your doctor told you, however you may also have something else, something further down the differential diagnosis list. By bringing HDCTs together under the HMSA umbrella, we hope to increase the chances of patients, and the physicians treating them, recognising that there is list of potential possibilities for the symptoms experienced, thus increasing the chances of accurate diagnosis. Rachel will be writing an article for the next edition of the HMSA Journal, but in the meantime the article below, featured in the Irish Times, well illustrates how important it is to consider differential diagnosis. http://www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/health-family/my-health-experience-every-day-i-can-get-up-out-of-bed-and-walk-and-behave-normally-is-a-blessing-1.2486721 #hmsaware #bendybasics #hmsa #hmsacharity #diagnosis #spoonies #marfansyndrome #loeysdietzsyndrome #hypermobilitysyndromes #hdct
