A great number of things are causing consternation to me currently.
Not least - the Online Safety Bill
Which is as transparant in its attempt to enable censorship as it is incapable of 'protecting the children'.
I am fully aware of this [and other] countries' histories of pinning queer [LGBTQIA+] culture as pornography, or at least "unsuitable for children". As though I myself did not know since I was in school that I'm nonbinary.
In addition, this will not help children.
By closing the door to online spaces, children are limited even further in what they can engage with. Noone has proposed better places for children to be or socialise. Children will therefore be forced to upload images of themselves online, to unsecured and hackable locations - making it easier for pedophiles to know who to target. That also assumes that a child didn't steal a parent's ID; or that the upload database is not run by people with malicious intent themselves. AI can scrape these images *anyway* and use them to increase the quality of deepfakes.
I am from the generation who knew "the internet is as unsafe as the street" and we learned internet safety at school in our IT classes.
Push for a repeal of this bill, and a reintroducion of high quality IT classes that includes internet safety.
Education, not censorship, is the solution here.
