john’s creative prowess culminates in his portfolio of scratch-made models and miniatures, often incorporated into small and self-contained eco-scapes. these “mini worlds” include lush terrarium scenes and cup-sized ponds, classic ships in bottles and not-so-classic ships with wings, dioramas hidden in empty nut-shells or old tins, treehouses perched in his bonsais and house plants, and little clay towns that are mounted atop mossy driftwood or rock pieces and strung up to “float” via fishing line. many of his creations are made using materials he finds washed up on the beach, various up-cycled house scraps, and those plant propagations from his garden. he only ever kept a handful in the rectory for himself, as a majority were made and given away as gifts ( for example, each crockett family has a ship-in-bottle replica of their fishing boat made by the priest ). he does, however, keep pictures of the ones he was particularly proud of.
