sorry abt the da posting but oouuuhhhhh the ways in which rhu hides herself and makes certain information available to keep people away from even worse information abt herself... solas in love with her onion ass as a fellow onion.

here he was feeling kinship because the biggest failure of her life was a badly-ended rebellion in vyrantium in the irrepressible fire of her youth - yes! a failure he can understand, intimately. a person he can see properly (?) for the first time, and has started to feel a deep respect for despite himself. the desire to free others and yourself, the need to raze an institution that would cage living thinking people to the fucking ground. he feels as if he knows her in this moment, intimately, even as he cannot directly explain the realities of his own version to her. how badly he wants to trust her with it - he can elide. he can let rhu fill in the gaps he leaves in the story, as elves in this time all face relatively similar plights. that will have to be enough.

then he - and almost Only he, as only her nephew, mr. inquisitor, also knows this, at least for a while - finds out that the Actual biggest failure of rhu's life is her dead children, instead. here's a trauma he has no context for, and it's what she lost herself to for years. systematic violence and injustice may have caused it, but she can't (and doesn't - she isn't wired with his same responses to things; she is his foil Because of how she responds to similar stimuli) DO anything about it. there is only the grief. it's the least he can do to dwell in it with her for a while, even as he considers how selfish it would be of him to put a person he loves over the larger needs of his situation - which he wants to do now. so badly. but is there more he doesn't know? has she hidden even more of herself out of necessity, as he's done for himself? he could spend the rest of his life finding out, but. but,

for those unaware today india experienced one of its biggest protests in half a decade. there were protests all over the nation for various causes but the major one was in delhi. all we asked for was the resignation of the education minister because he's failed the students of this nation time & time again. but we were met with brutality, the police had barricaded the main site of protest (jantar mantar). metro stations were shutdown, the public was restrained from reaching the protest site and all the adjoining areas had signal jammers to make sure the crowd had no access to constant updates. they had us blocked from all the sides. they were lathi (baton) charging students from one side & releasing tear gas from the other. you couldn't walk 100 m on streets without having a tear gas shell thrown at you. there were many students, women & kids bleeding — some from their head. some couldn't walk anymore. the police had removed their nameplates & acted with full impunity to resort to unprecedented levels of violence. they were pelting stones at us, beating up people for no reason, forcefully detaining them and attacking us constantly with tear gas & rubber bullets. they wouldn't let you exit either. the crowd was peaceful & looking out for each other yet they were met with violence. i made a friend who was all alone & she asked to join me & my friend because a policeman wouldn't leave her alone. he constantly prodded her for personal info, invited her back to the jeep saying they have food there, wouldn't stop following her around. you couldn't call or ask anyone for help, we were left to fend for ourselves & be on a constant lookout if you did not want to be beaten up to death by police. all for what? asking a resignation? shame on this country.

What's the first "big news story" you remember from when you were a kid?

It's something I love to ask mixed-aged groups sometimes because I think it's really interesting to see the responses. I've gotten answers from the Olympics of [whatever year] to Watergate to more recent stuff from my niblings.

My first news thing I remember is the OJ Simpson trial. I vaguely remember watching the news with my grandparents before that, but that's the first story I remember, in part because my second grade teacher had us go play so she could watch the verdict 😂

the most glaring thing when it comes to misogyny with female vs male characters isn’t even just the difference in the amount of sympathy granted to them (though these two things might in the end be very tied up in each other), they are genuinely not afforded complexity and dimension either. there are so many male characters that people understand as reprehensible, but they are simultaneously heralded as complex and incredible masterworks. yet when it is a woman in a similar spot, they are treated like they are simple, two-dimensional, and are not afforded the same grace and effort when it comes to analyzing their writing. i’m not saying that writers are totally exempt from misogyny when it comes to the writing itself, but lord does the audience demonstrate it way more in my eyes
