RE: hobbikats fans
so it’s been brought to my attention that tina has posted about me and rust-for-life on her instagram. so if you come by here because of that, read this.
i was a huge fan of hobbikats. what i did wasn’t out of malice. i saw a trans rights hashtag trending a couple days ago, and being that i am trans and love to see trans positivity, i clicked it. that was when i saw matt walsh’s disgusting transphobia in the tag, and went to block him, only to find tina following him.
there is no amount of excusing it. if you allow yourself to listen to bigoted opinions and put them on the same level as people wanting human rights, you are only helping bigots be heard. i never once said tina is herself a white supremacist, i said she follows fascists, and doing so means indirectly introducing white supremacy to fans. “centrists” who see violence being enacted and stand by doing nothing about it are just complicit. that’s how i see it.
and so, i was upset, and went to warn other like-minded individuals. i am pretty much a nobody on this site, but felt guilty for introducing friends and mutuals to the channel. and even if there is never any gross content on the channel or her twitter itself, i can’t in good conscience recommend someone follow, only to find racist, transphobic takes through liked tweets from tina.
the fact that... instead of her questioning as to why this has caused upset with some fans, chose to go to instagram to rile up her followers says it all. she’d rather continue to follow infamous bigots like ann coulter and think if she peppers it with following some LGBT+ people it makes it okay, rather than actually consider the perspective that normalising herself to these kind of ideas is unhealthy, and by proximity possibly passing it onto others through liked tweets who may be impressionable.
anyways, i know a lot of centrist-minded folk will probably be all “it’s not that deep” or talk about “moral purity” or whatever garbage. but honestly, not following fascists is... real easy, actually. it is honestly so simple. that’s why it boggles my mind i have to even write this. tina has liked tweets that are anti-BLM and pro-police during a time when protests are happening. it’s shit like that, that you should be thinking critically about.
anyways, yeah. that’s my take. i’m not “toxic”, just a normal human who doesn’t want to be reminded that people out there wish to destroy those already marginalised in society ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
