Happy Holidays - BTS Style
12. “Can’t we just drink hot chocolate and watch Hallmark movies today?”
19. “Do you have any idea how hard it is to find fresh flowers in the middle of winter?”
Pairing: Hobi x reader
It’s too cold to leave the house, much less try to be productive. At least, that’s what my train of thought was until somebody came knocking on my door. Looking doubtfully in the mirror at my grand attire that’s comprised of a robe over my sweats, I crack open the door.
I immediately open it wider when I see who it is: a bundled up Hobi that’s shaking like a leaf from the cold.
“Hey!” I shout, welcoming him in. “Come in, hurry. It’s freezing outside.”
He wastes no time, heading straight inside and enveloping me in a tight hug before kicking his shoes off and ditching the coat.
“Oh, it’s so warm in here,” he smiles at me as I catch a flurry of color behind his back.
“What’s that?” I ask. Hobi looks at me innocently.
“What do you mean?”
I head into the kitchen, rummaging through my cupboards to try to track down some hot chocolate. “You know what I mean, what are you holding behind your back? And what are you even doing over here in the first place? You’re never over here in the mornings.”
Turning my back on him in order to start boiling some water, I miss Hobi taking out the object from behind his back. When I turn back around, I nearly drop the package of hot chocolate.
He’s smiling sheepishly while holding a bouquet of beautiful flowers, extending it out to me.
“This is why I’m here, actually.”
I stare at him wide-eyed. “W-why? What?”
Hobi laughs at my obvious shock, no longer looking sheepish but stepping toward me until he gently places flowers in his hands. “You were just saying the other day about how you wanted fresh flowers to set on your counter like all those Hallmark movies, so I thought I’d get some for you.”
My brain still isn’t quite connecting. “But...”
Hobi grins at me before checking under the sink and shouting in triumph when he finds a vase. He takes the flowers again and begins trimming the steps and filling the vase with water. “But what?”
I watch, completely mesmerized as my best friend gently places the bouquet in the vase, fluffing up the arrangement a bit. “Do you have any idea how hard it is to find fresh winters in the middle of winter?”
Turning to look at me with that glowing smile of his, Hobi nods. “Yeah, actually. I know that from experience now. But I found this really cool shop not far from here, you’ll have to come with me sometime. They have all these cool arrangements of dried hydrangeas....”
Hobi rambles on, filling me in on all the little details about his adventure. I nod along, occasionally stirring the hot chocolate as I wait for it to heat up. Hopefully Hobi will pass off the red on my cheeks as a result of standing over the stove.
I noticed about two months ago that I was a little too happy every time Hobi called me up or showed up at my apartment. It’s something I’m still trying to wrap my head around, where these feelings came from. Especially since we’ve been friends for a couple of years already.
So far I’ve done a great job at hiding my feelings for him in fear of ruining the friendship; but I slip a little further every time he does things like this. I mean, who just shows up out of the blue with flowers?
Jung Hoseok, that’s who.
“Ummm, hello?”
I jump back as Hobi shows up beside me, waving a hand in front of my face.
“Ah! What? What?” I demand an answer, growing even more embarrassed as Hobi points to the boiling water.
“I thought you should know the hot chocolate is ready. Are you ok?”
I nod, brushing him off as I sidle around him to grab some mugs. “Yeah, I’m fine. Sorry, just thinking. Ready for hot cocoa?”
He grabs the mugs from my hands, smiling at me in disbelief. “You’re so out of it today, aren’t you?”
Shaking him off I watch as he ladles hot chocolate into the mugs before handing me one.
“A little. Just tired and cold. So do you not have work today?”
I effectively change the subject, heading over to the front room and settling down on the couch. Hobi hesitates before marching over and sitting beside me.
“Oh, that. I technically did but...”
“But what?” I ask, mimicking him from earlier. He rolls his eyes at me.
“Can’t we just drink hot chocolate and watch Hallmark movies today?” His eyes are big as he looks at me, taking a sip of his drink for emphasis.
Glaring at him, I scoot closer hoping that he doesn’t notice. “What are you avoiding?”
He looks down, grabbing the remote and turning the TV on. “Nothing. Why would I be avoiding anything? I wouldn’t hide anything from you, you’re my best friend. That’s like, illegal for me to keep secrets from you, isn’t it? You’d kill me, wouldn't you? You probably would-”
“Hobi,” I laugh at him as he flicks through the movie options on my Netflix. “You’re rambling. What are you hiding? I won’t kill you. Everyone has secrets, don’t they?” Winking at him, I lean back against the chair and sip my cocoa.
Hobi takes a deep breath, looking back and forth between me and the TV. “You promise you won’t get mad?”
“Of course not.”
Absentmindedly fixing his hair, Hobi looks past me toward the flowers sitting on my counter.
“Theboyskickedmeoutandmademecomeoverhere.”
I almost spit out my hot chocolate. “What? Slower, Hobi.”
“Oh, right.” He turns to sit facing me, immediately making me sit up straighter. Our knees brush up against each other, and my heart soars when he doesn’t move away.
“I said that the boys kicked me out and made me come over here.”
I tilt my head to one side. “Why did they kick you out, though?”
Hobi shakes his head at the memory. “I’m supposed to talk to you about something very important.”
Now he has my full attention as well as my beating heart. “What’s going on? Is everything ok?”
“Everything is fine, don’t worry.” He waves off my worry, eyes drifting from the flowers to my face. “I...the agency is throwing a holiday party on tomorrow night, they’re renting out an ice skating rink.”
When he doesn’t continue, I nudge him. “Ok, that’s fun. Are you going?”
“Yeah, with you.”
I freeze at the same time Hobi notices his mistake.
“Oh! No no no, I didn’t mean...wait, let me go back!” He sets his hot chocolate down, rubbing his forehead as he tries to get his thoughts together. “I meant to say, would you like to come with me?”
A giggle escapes me as I see just how red he’s gone. “Yeah, sure. Sounds fun.”
Hobi looks surprised. “Really?”
“Yeah,” I shrug. “I mean, why not? I’ve hung out with everyone before, I don’t see why this is such a big deal. Certainly not a big enough deal for the boys to kick you out over.”
Realization dawns on Hobi’s face as he looks at me, mouth dropping open. “Oh, yeah...I mean, sure. It’s not that big of a deal, but I was wondering if you maybe wanted to come as my date.”
Now it’s my turn for my mouth to drop open and face to turn red.
“Only if you want to though,” Hobi rushes to clarify. “If you’re uncomfortable with it we can just forget the whole thing-”
“Yes.”
“Yes?”
“Yes.”
Hobi smiles halfway before pausing. “Wait, yes as in, ‘let’s go out’ or yes as it ‘let’s forget about this’?”
Taking another long sip from my hot chocolate, I peek a glance over at the flowers sitting proudly on my counter.
“Yes as in ‘it’s about time you asked me out’.”
Eyes lighting up, Hobi lets out a startled laugh.
“Great.”
“Yeah.”
Leaning back against the couch, he smiles at me from where he sits buried in the cushions. “It’s a date.”
