The Hobyahs are a race of monstrous bogey creatures, featured in the fairy tale of the same name. The story was included in More English Fairytales by Joseph Jacobs.
In the story, the Hobyahs harass a family nightly, threatening to tear down their house, eat the man and woman, and kidnap their young daughter. The Hobyahs were always scared off by a barking dog, until the man, fed up with the noise, butchered the animal. The Hobyahs lived up to their promise, eating the man and woman and kidnapping the girl. Eventually, she was rescued by a passerby, who unleashed his own dog on the Hobyahs, killing them all.
