18. My character walking in on yours throwing up.

            Maybe she should have asked first, but then again - When did Lucas ask to see her? The pair weren’t as close as they were before and that sucked in Alaya’s opinion. She almost wanted to beg Lucas to let her live with him again. Not only did she miss Lucas, but she missed his kids - especially Effy.

                       Letting herself in, Alaya was greeted by the girl in question, smiling at her brightly, “Hello, you.” She beamed as Effy waved at her almost shyly. The blonde looked around, brow crumpling - Lucas usually made an appearance by now, “Where’s Daddy?”

            “He went upstairs.” She called from the living room where she was playing with her dolls.

            With a small nod, Alaya slipped her shoes off and wandered up the stairs. It didn’t take long for the distinct smell of vomit to hit her nose, “Lucas?” She called out softly, peeking around the bathroom door.

                       Kneeling down beside her best friend, she rubbed his back in circles, “It’s okay. Let it out.” She whispered, “It’s a side effect …” You don’t know that.

            Why was she doing this? What had made her feel as if she had to do this? Sure, she was angry, so very angry and yes, maybe her anger issues didn’t exactly help. She’d been shaking and of course, Lucas had tried to calm her down. But that was the point.

                                  Tried.

            He had failed though. And he had only aggrevated her further, but for her to actually course harm in her fit of anger was something that bewildered the blonde. Yet, she had. Blinded by rage and fury, Alaya had hurt her best friend unknowingly.

                      He wasn’t coming back.

            His raspy breath caught her attention, and she found herself crawling towards him, bloody finger tips running over his pale cheek, her tears spilling down her cheeks. How was she to allow him to be in pain? Pulling the feathered haired boy into her lap, she hushed him, her sobs racking her body.

                       “I’m sorry. I-I-i didn’t m-m-mean to. I-I ——” She was inconsolable at this point, “A-At least n-no one c-can h-hurt you a-a-any more.” She muttered, watching Lucas take his last breath. Of course that was no excuse for what she had done, but it was true. No one could hurt him any longer, no one could touch him.

          So, Lucas hadn’t been his perky self recently and that made Alaya pretty down in the dumps herself. Crawling over to the feathery haired boy, Alaya wrapped her arms around his frame, squeezing him lightly.

                   “Smile, Lukey.” She muttered, “Please …”

          Cue the small, tender kiss on the nose.
