So, I really want to visit Offenburg
My maternal Grandmother’s paternal family are from there and Hohburg. The Grishabers (Grieshaber before immigration) on my side haven’t been in Baden-Württemberg for a few generations; though they only unionized within this cultural community in the eastern US. (At least until my biological Great-Grandfather knocked up my Great-Grandmother in Idaho)
I’ve been able to visit a lot of the culture on Gramma’s maternal side; though only the Shoshone-Bannock aspect: the reservation at Fort Hall, where she grew up; all of the Shoshone-Bannock sites in Eastern Idaho (when very young); however I’ve never really gotten the chance to visit any of the Ottawa sites, as my family was adopted into Shoshone-Bannock after leaving Oklahoma during the uprising of reservations and limits against the Native peoples in the Midwest.
I want to get out of the country for a week or so; and from North Carolina, traveling to and staying in Offenburg would be relatively comfortable to do for about $2500. I could save that up in about a year, easily. These are only rough figures, of course, mainly factoring the cost of flight from RDU to Frankfurt for around $1,000; average of $350 to stay somewhere in or near Offenburg for a week; and about $200 for food. I have yet to factor in gas and whatever luxuries my wife and I would like to take. If I got a room in Offenburg, I wouldn’t feel the need to rent a vehicle, as my wife hates being on the interstate here, as it is.
I’m just ranting at this point. But, if any of my followers have any advice to give on this matter, pleeeease feel free to send me an ask or put something in my inbox. I’m trying to get better at checking that.
Sorry for making such a long post, and I hope you peeps have a wonderful day/night/existence in the void.
