Karasu defending Hiori 🥹

Gonna preface the following by saying, I don't think Isagi actually said anything wrong. He was being a little intense for sure and he should understand why tiring themselves out before a big match is a bad idea but it's also understandable, he wants to win. Hiori himself accepts his critique. But I love that Karasu inserts himself into the conversation to defend Hiori.

Looking at it from his pov, he doesn't know much about this new dynamic between Isagi and Hiori. What he does know is Hiori's past, how he felt about soccer under the constant pressure of expectations. How he played with no real passion for the sport... Almost like a robot.

I do think Isagi's use of tepid was triggering for Karasu not only for himself (bc he thinks he's boring and ordinary) but also for what it insinuated about Hiori, who Karasu sees as someone extraordinary. Like he really took that shit personally 😭

But we know the heart of the issue is Isagi pushing Hiori too hard - "It ain't like Hiori is slackin' off". Knowing what he knows, Karasu speaking up for Hiori and doing so in front of the whole team is really sweet 🥺 he lets the mask slip in that moment...

All that to say - KARASU TABITO, PRESIDENT AND CEO OF THE HIORI YO FAN CLUB AND DEFENSE SQUAD ❤️

Karasu stop mentioning, endlessly thinking of and relentlessly rooting for Hiori challenge: FAILED!!

Adding onto what I stated in the last tabiori analysis, "in the end it all depends on that guy" is such a wonderful expression of Karasu's deep reverence for Hiori.

His commitment to honouring Hiori's agency at every given opportunity is so heartwarming ;-; especially given that Hiori has been robbed of that his entire life — having to abandon all sense of self to become a vessel for his parents' broken dreams.

I know that this fact is well-established, but every time I realise that only Karasu has been allowed a glimpse into this part of Hiori's life — the level of intimacy they share really hits me!! Even if as Hiori heals and this changes, Karasu being the first to melt the ice around Hiori's heart is so meaningful :')

Hence why one of my fave passages from the light novel is:

"(Karasu-kun…is an amazing guy)

Even though he's a little bit bad-mouthed, and even though he’s not sure what he means by “erotic”. His heart, which was just dying cold like ice, became faintly heated."
