Gemini, Aquarius for the writing asks
how often will your plot change throughout the course of writing?
When I was originally plotting Ferry Service, my first conception of it was "Gus plays Charon, who meets Mike at the river where he was killed." That was... my entire plot until two weeks before the Blue Christmeth deadline, where I changed Saul to Charon, and then at the last minute decided Saul was only pretending to be Charon. I think this is why I'm so self-conscious about the fic -- when I was editing (while sick!) I went back to include hints to this, but the pacing is so awkward and rushed that the ending seems to come out of nowhere... but anyway! The answer is that it changes a ton because despite my obsessive plotting, I don't know what story I want to tell until I start writing.
what is the most unique thing about your current wip?
I thought of a poem I’ve been working on after you talked about Dylan’s “Key West” this week -- I guess the most interesting thing about writing it has been weaving in musical references. I was aiming for “Alane Rollings’ understated word play” at the beginning, but it ended up more “David Clewell references pop culture for two pages.” Maybe I’ll go back and make it more subtle, but sometimes you need to accept where your style takes you naturally so you can ever put the poem away.
