The First Chapter
a Magni Dezmond x Reader fic
--------------------------------------------------
this isn’t proof-read and i am dumb. gn fic.
It was another say in the Tempus guild hall, nothing new. Our dearest self-proclaimed alchemist, Magni Dezmond, was working all the more harder in his laboratory. Sounds of glass clinking and boiling concoctions were the only things you could hear.
Entering the room you could see bookshelves upon bookshelves, filled to the brim would books of all kinds. There was also the presence of Dezmond’s adorable little helpers (and lab rats), the Magmites. The little critters were walking all over the place and seemed to be in a rush to hand over certain ingredients to the guild alchemist who was busy taking down notes on his latest experiment.
“Okay…. Magmite number 420 could you hand me the mushrooms on the top shelf? Please take care of them, they’re one of a kind and quite vital to this potion.” With Dez’s instruction Magmite 420 carefully brought down the mushrooms that seem to have been preserved. The jar was far from clean, there was a bit of dust pooling near the lid and the water the mushrooms were floating in seemed to have turned a bit green due to its age.
“Thank you.” the alchemist said. The Magmite seemed happy to have served its master, after acknowledging his gratitude he scurried away in hopes to find something else he could help with.
“Hoo.” an exhausted sigh came out from the alchemist. “If this works, maybe I’ll find my peace.” For years and years Magni Dezmond has devoted his life to creating this potion. A project that meant so much to him he even left the Academy that he once admired. But what was this potion exactly? Well, one could call it the potion of life. Hearing it for the first time you would imagine that this potion would bring people back to life, no? Oh how he wished. Unfortunately that type of alchemy is forbidden and any information about it has been wiped off Elysium. The concoction Magni was making was a potion to determine if someone was still alive or not.
In the world of Elysium, technology was not as advanced as magic and alchemy were. Trackers were not a thing, telephone lines were years away from becoming something for the common man to enjoy. So the great self-proclaimed alchemist of the Tempus guild decided to make a tracking potion himself. Many years ago he lost someone quite dear to him. Some say it was his best friend, some say it was someone he has a romantic relationship with, but no one could deny that the two were soulmates; people destined to be in each others’ lives.
His soulmate once joined an expedition and never came back. People say that all the participants were killed by rabid creatures in the forest, others say they were beaten to death by bandits. Either way, they were no longer with us. But Dezmond refused to acknowledge it, he didn’t know how to explain it but he knew that his soulmate was still out there and now he’s hoping to find them using this potion.
The potion works much to earthlings call a “medium” someone who could come in contact with spirits or unworldly beings. This potion should be able to “find out if they’re still out there. If they aren’t…. I don’t want to think about it” as per Dezmond. The initially deep magenta colored potion should turn as clear as water if the person the user is trying to find still roams the land of Elysium and turn black if they have made it to the other world.
Magni Dezmond takes a deep breath before reaching into the mushroom jar with his gloved hand. “I can do this. They’re still out there, I just know it.” After retrieving the mushroom he slowly lowers it into the jar where his potion resides.
Immediately a reaction starts happening. The potion felt like it was alive, the bubbles were going haywire and smoke was emitting from the liquid. In fear of failure the alchemist closed his eyes and hoped for the best. “Please be out there. Please be safe.” Then, suddenly, all the noises coming from the potion stopped. Once again, Dezmond took a deep breath.
One.
Two.
Three.
After three he opened his eyes and tears started falling. His knees felt like jelly, a loud thud was heard as he hit the floor. Seconds after you could hear the hurried footsteps of his guildmates. Thud. Their leader, Altare, opened the door to his lab revealing a face filled with worry. Soon after all his guildmates started to enter his lab.
“Oi, Magni. You okay bro?” Axel said in a serious tone. Quite shocking coming from the gladiator who was usually seen so joyful.
“T-They’re….*haaaaaaaaaah* they’re” Magni tried to speak but the words weren’t coming out of his mouth.
“Calm down, Magni. It’ll be okay. We’re here” a worried Vesper said. Magni slowly nodded and started taking deep breathes. The vanguard boys hurriedly tried to give Magni water and fan him to calm him down.
A few minutes later, “Are you okay now?” Shinri asked.
Deep breaths, Magni. Calm down.
“Yep, I’m okay now.”
“Can you tell us what happened?” asked Flayon.
Magni points to the clear jar on his desk. Slowly, the biggest grin appears on his face.
“They’re alive. They’re still here on Elysium, I just need to find them.”
The boys erupted in cheers. They knew how much that person meant to Magni, they couldn't be more than happy for him.
I’ll find you and bring you back. I promise.
