locking in is my expertise babes hold up. if i really need to lock in there’s a couple things i do.
first, study in an environment that works for you. some people need to be in a quiet place with a lot of movement or a noisy area. me personally, i prefer a quiet place with minimal movement because i distracted easily. also need to have a clear environment.
second, get rid of your phone. if you have storage take a timelaspe video of you studying. not only is your phone in use but the video after makes you (or me personally) feel productive. if you don’t i use a lockbox or i give my phone to a friend or something. but if you have restraint unlike me, put it on a specific dnd.
third, i never study in my dorm/room. switching locations really help because as soon as i think of my room i end up bed rotting.
fourth, if i remember correctly your in college right? if not ignore me cause this is pretty school/uni specific. most professors publish modules ahead of time so always work ahead so when they are teaching in class its like a refresher for you.
five, this may be the adhd, but i always make sure i do some sort of physical activity prior to my studying sessions. just to get energy out so i can focus. but this also works for my other friends so possibly try it? it also just helps your brain, even if its like a ten minute walk. i used to walk laps around my house.
six, take breaks. idc idc idc. it’s crucial not to get burned out. like take a breath, get water, go on a walk, eat, do pushups, just don’t study.
my studying techniques are pretty basic. I pretend i’m the teacher and teach it to my friends, family, myself (recording), or anyone who will listen. if i’m by myself i will like ask myself questions like “why is this xyz?” so i can create connections and explanations.
that’s all i can think of right now but if you got any questions hit me.
The environment you're studying in definitely affects you a lot. I too get distracted very easily. For me to concentrate fully, I need someplace quiet. Earlier there was this library near my house, it was a small one and not a lot of people came by. Was a perfect place that helped me to fully concentrate. But after shifting, there's no library or quiet corner I can go to and home is always a source of distraction but well I'm adjusting.
I don't usually record myself but I've recently started counting down the hours I actually study. I place my phone on the stand beside me and start a timer and record the hrs I studied for. This has helped me realise how productive I actually am and how much more or less time I should dedicate.
I'm in college but it's not related to that. It’s an additional certified course examination but I do get the point. Probably use it for my next Sem
Oh ya i definitely do that. I can never just directly sit down and open a book and start reading. I need some physical activity to set my mind straight and get into focus mode. It helps me regulate myself and concentrate better
Agreed, a minimum fifteen minutes break between long study sessions is a must!
The best way I memorise or understand material is by writing it down or making pointer. I study a concept and then I try creating pointer, headers etc for it, it not only makes referencing in future easy but also helps me understand them better. Writing down notes is really helpful.
Thankyouu so much bestiee for this 🫶
