ahh I am so pleased- it has been such a whirlwind, intense, insanely busy first month of school. Between dissertation writing, teaching a brand new class of my own design, and taking two translation classes for a second-language teaching certificate, it feels like I have not had a second to catch my breath.  And also seeing all the awesome friends who I haven’t seen in a year!

But finally, this weekend, I scheduled a day for myself with NO PLANS, so that I could just be at home and do laundry and clean my house and organize my little cottage. 

And it is such a rainy, blustery fall day outside, and I am so cozily tidying inside my little house and listening to an awesome feminist podcast and ahhhh I am just very pleased. That is all! :)

There was something unpersuasive and impermanent about these attempts at home-making, as if they were children building a den, and despite the fresh paint, the prints on the walls, the new furniture, the flat retained its shabby, temporary air.

...I need a direction

Blogs are great for venting. Sorrow, self-pity, anger and elation, all make for great stories, but only to the people who care. Sure I may encounter another blogger, maybe two who might just care, but I really should find a direction for this blog. Something more practical. I have debated some of the typical blogging cliches such as travel or food, two topics I know a great deal about, but they seemed easy. Perhaps fashion? Yes, I know a LOT about fashion and love wearable art, but again: too easy. So what could I write about that is original yet dear to me? How to make a house a home.

In my recent independence and self-reflective journey I have uncovered my penchant for home making. It not only encompasses decorating and/or interior design, but making a house a home is everything. From cooking to clothes, to furniture and fixtures, home-making is the art of mastering the relationship between a home and its tenants, and those within it. It is a delicate process that involves multidimensional thinking. And if blundered could lead to permanent uneasiness and discomfort.

creature comforts

tonight i can fall asleep in peace.

why you ask? dos reasons

1. because i finally got a curtain up over my (bare-all) i mean, beautiful bedroom french doors so they can't be "climbin' in my windows, snatchin my people up". yessiree, its gonna be a sad night for all those peeperscreepers out there that i just KNOW have been watching my every move.

2. i finally have jersey sheets. JERSEY. SHEETS. i have been downright coveting a set of these things for years. every time i would pass by them in Wally World i would tell myself to hold out for that perfect time and place and bed in my future somewheres. well, that time is now, and at this very second i have them safely hospital-tucked underneath me. straight-out-of-the-dryer-warm.
