There’s Nothing Cult-Like About Doing Something That’s Natural For A Woman’s Body

Natural childbirth is now considered controversial. Practically cult-like. At least, according to the UK’s The Times.

"Why do so many people act like giving birth naturally is a thing of the past, or worse, they treat you like you’re some crazy cult member who needs to be reconditioned to fit their standards?"

I had 4 natural homebirths and I wouldn't have a baby any other way, but I understand not all women can do that, so why do doctors nurses, friends, and family try to dissuade women from avoiding drugs?

When I was a kid we didn't have a lot of $$$ and we often didn't have health insurance. Because of this my mom taught us about mind-over-matter healing and learned meditations that keep up well.

That faith and power aided me through each of my 4 homebirths. Although a few things "went wrong" my kids were born healthy and happy because of the love and trust that self-healing builds.

It’s this status quo that midwives and doulas say they are trying to change through awareness. 😘🍼👶🏾🎉🙋🏿‍♀️ Sistahs, there is a feeling of empowerment that having a birth where you are fully aware and able to participate. When you are not under the influence of medication, the bonding between you and your newborn child is heightened. I had 3 of my 9 at home and can bear witness to it! 👶🏾🍼🎉😘🍼🙋🏾‍♀️ As a holistic doula of color, I help moms prepare for birth and motherhood in different ways. Most times, I'm sharing tips from my African ancestors on pregnancy which includes increasing her intake of Vitamin C to boost her energy, drinking protein shakes for strength and making use of castor oil during her delivery to help with the contractions. 🙋🏾‍♀️🍼😘🎉👶🏾🤗 More BLACK MATERNAL HEALTH WEEK Information all week long.
