I drew fan art for @ameb-stuff ‘s comic HomeSick, because it’s such a joy to read I couldn’t help myself.
This story about how distance can test the bonds of two brothers who have never been apart is not just well-written, but it’s incredibly relatable. I’ve experienced the loss of purpose that comes with being far away from those I love for the first time, and the way she characterizes those feelings in this comic are amazing. The art style is refreshingly unique, the plot is both heart-warming and heart-wrenching, and Sans and Payrus are both written very in character. I highly recommend it.
Been rereading a webtoons comic i loved a few years ago only to find out its finished (but the last two "episodes" arent free yet) so i binge-read the whole thing and it reminds me how much i love things made for adults. It's gory, hard hitting, talks about canibalism and betrayal and lies and trust and did I mention its gory? But like, in a pretty way.
But the title is a generic word that makes it impossible to look up fanart for (if there is much of it idk how popular it is to have very many fanartists) and its hard!! Im going to have to search certain characters, hoping the combination of title+character is specific enough and the character names arent too generic. The real reason eveyone has to have a unique name in media: so you can look up fanart!!
Anyways, the comic is called "Homesick" and its about the zombie apocalypse (but not technically zombies because when is it ever ACTUALLY zobies amiright?) And it follows an amnesiac girl who realizes she's actually a host to the more cognitive and powerful zombies (murks) and she struggles with trust, loyalty, and identity.
And my FAVORITE part of it? The "benevolent possession" trope of it. There's a guy in her head. He needs to eat people to live. He doesnt want to hurt her but he WILL take over to protect her and the things she cares about. And shes ok with that. And so are (almost) all the other hosts. Rather than finding it awful and invasive and whatever, the hosts and murks pretty much always bond and care about each other as people and will do anything to protect their partner, and not ONE of those symbiotic telationships are romantic.
But there is a fantastic toxic romantic (and queer) relationship hidden in there that is 100% worth the read. (Not hidden as in in the background, hidden as in you dont see it until later on).
10/10 would recommend its really good, I only have one "critique" and its more of a selfish wish than a real critique i think its perfect.
