So when did this happen?
Shipbreakers is finally here?
Is this just Homeworld but on the ground?
I have no idea and have little time to find out what with my game hype being preoccupied by XCOM 2.

Homeworld: Shipbreakers teaser. It’s been too long since we’ve seen something from this game, I personally can’t wait for it. There has been some flack from it not taking place in space. Will I miss it? yes, but the fact that some of the original crew from the original Homeworld are the creators of this, makes any doubt that I have subside.
New Homeworld: Shipbreakers Footage/Trailer Appears The developers behind Homeworld: Shipbreakers, which we haven't heard about in.. 2 years? Went to a Unity event to discuss the tech of their in-game cameras, and to showcase it they've release a small trailer for their game.
Homeworld Shipbreakers news. I really hope this game is good, the idea of exploring the kith's on Kharak is something i’m really looking forward to.
This is the most we have seen of Homeworld shipbreakers even if it is about procedural Cinematography (although its pretty interesting anyway)
HARDWARE: Shipbreakers is being developed by Blackbird Interactive, a company made up of former Homeworld developers. This fact becomes obvious when watching the above video, which not only features Homeworld-esque title font, but more or less the same visual style, similar thematic elements, music by Paul Ruskay, engine trails on the aircraft, and even that familiar deep 'Mwoo' sound when zooming out.
Details on the game itself are sparse, although it's apparently going to be aiming for an eventual planet-scale maybe persistent-world real-time metagame, or something. Like I said, details are sparse.
WTF JUST FOUND OUT FIVE MINUTES AGO: So apparently Gearbox had no idea what they were going to do with the Homeworld IP after they acquired it, so now they're giving it to Blackbird. Guess what this means.
HARDWARE: Shipbreakers is now being re-titled.
HOMEWORLD: Shipbreakers is the newest title in the revered Homeworld franchise. Where this game fits in with the rest of the Homeworld story is still unclear, although I'd presume that this is going to be a sort of prequel. Is it going to be any good? Who knows?

Gearbox, current owners of the Homeworld IP, have given the team behind Hardware Shipbreakers, the use of the Homeworld license.
This is a very big deal.
Blackbird Interactive is a team that is composed of many of the core ex-Relic employees that were responsible for the Homeworld series. They've been quietly working on a game called Hardware Shipbreakers. Shipbreakers is an RTS about scavengers on a desert planet taking apart and fighting over ancient derelict spaceships in the desert.
Everything about this game looked very familiar. Its setting is reminiscent of Kharak, the home of the Kushan race, and the starting point of the game Homeworld. The trailers and art style are an almost exact recreation of the cinematic where the Khar-Toba is discovered in the desert. Artistic motifs such as the three cores and clean angular designs are carried over. The music has the same distinct style. Even the vehicles that found the ship are very similar. Shipbreakers was a Homeworld prequel in everything but name.
But now, with Gearbox's help. It is a Homeworld prequel.
Ladies and Gentlemen. There is a new Homeworld game in the works.
